I have drove truck locally for a while and would like to go OTR to try it. Trucking is what I want to do but for my first OTR experience should I go with a Company to try it first or do you thinking buying a use rig would be a better idea

I'm not an o/o but if you have never gone otr I would probably go as a company driver first to see if you and your family can handle it.I know it's not for everyone or everyone's family. If you are married of have a better half what do they think about it?Kids?Things like that.I'm not trying to discourage you just wanting you to think about the sacrifices you might be making before you jump out there.I am thinking about buying an old cabover outright cash paid for no truck payment to deal with and getting out there and maybe leasing on to a company sometime in the next year or 2 myself but I've been out here just long enough to know that I love it and can't be home more than 2 days without having to at least start the truck and sit on the porch to smoke a cigarette and wonder where I'm goin next lol I'm so ate up with driving.I'll shut up but think before you leap because if you can't do the otr you may have spent all the money and headaches on that truck for nothing.I'd go find a good company to start with since it sounds like you have a CDL and some experience already.Good luck and be safe out there!

Yeah i have been trying to find a company for a while but it seems where i live i am at the cutoff area for most of the trucking companies around so i have no chance for employment. And with some of the big companies it seems since i have not been otr thats a problem, or the trailer I pulled at pepsi wasnt long enough (it was a 48ft) and the want it to have been a 53ft. So i dont know what to do right now.

What kind of home time do they offer or would that be the down side of not having much freight in my parts

Check out Monson, they have a terminal and training in the Twin Cities area and Red Wing. Also, Halvor, Timberline in Superior, WI might be something to consider. They each have good reputations.
