Any advice would be extremely helpful. Finished company sponsored school 7-20-2011, was told it would be 5 wks before my trainer could pick me up, applied with another company and scheduled orientation, what are the cons of doing this, other than having to pay back the money, I mean as far as will the other company still hire me if they find out? And the company that sponsored me has my certificate, is it possible to still get a job without it, went to a 3rd party school, can't the company just call the school and confirm my training? Thanks for any help with this matter!
thinking about quiting company that sponsored school!

May I ask which company is this?

Also as far as for the money issue, they can sue you if you sign any kind of contact which I believe may have happen.Waiting 5 weeks for a trainer is a long time. What company is this???
-
have you completed your contract with them..
If you have completed good luck moving on to bigger and better things
If you HAVE NOT completed it...STAY
until you have completed your signed obligation..
You made a comitment to them for your schooling NOW " man-up " and finish it.. -
as bad as it may be, trry and stay aboard. Life of more than one person in your same circumstance has been ruined by jumping ship.
Often they say later, "it would have been better to stay."
For readers that HAVENT signed up for company sponsored schools, read this post carefully. It is one of the reasons I suggest new candidates beg or borrow the money and attend a private school rather than company sponsored school.
If things aren't right, you can just pick up and move. Otherwise, you are an indentured servant (or worse!)Jarhed1964 Thanks this. -
Can you give shed some light on the chance if I do quit......is it hard to get another job?
-
Why not ask for a copy of your certificate.... so that "mom" can frame it?

Obviously five weeks is a long time to wait. Most of us are only going to be guessing what will happen. Why would you consider breaking your agreement?
I'm sure you entered into a contract for training. If you leave what does the contract say will happen? I'm pretty sure it will become due and payable upon termination of your employment by either party.
If you don't pay it, they will turn it over for collection and it will appear on your credit report. Then the company trying to collect it will put their information on your credit report.
I don't know how the certificate will be handled. I'm guessing since the company paid for your certificate they are the customer and you will be directed by the school to get what you need from the company. After all, why do you think they did it this way? It was to protect their investment.
I can't imagine another company taking you on if they know the story. And this brings us to another consideration. The company you break your contract with will put this information in your DAC and it could well end your career before it starts.
You had your chance to research and make a plan before you made a commitment. You chose this company and entered into an agreement for training. The company got you your training. Now the equitable thing to do is honor the contract you signed.
I'd be willing to bet you will pay more in headache and heartache than you will make in dollars and cents by going to another company if you can even pull it off. What happens if the other company won't take you when they know the full story and the first company won't take you back when the find out you are double-dealing?

Nobody has ever seen my "certificate". I think I may have seen it once, maybe not. I don't remember. But I'm pretty sure many companies have CALLED my school.

Seriously guys.... five weeks before the trainer can pick him up? Sounds like a load of bull to me. They either don't have a trainer, don't have ENOUGH trainers, or don't give a rats ***. How many here can survive five weeks without any pay? Maybe you should call the company and ask them how you can pay back the schooling early? Do you have a contract? If so, read it and see what penalties they throw at you. I'm all for honoring a contract, but not at the expense of not being able to afford food and shelter while you wait for them to get off their kiesters and get you rolling. It's that much worse if you have a family to support. Sounds like a bait and switch scheme.
Seriously.... give them a call EVERY DAY and nag them to get you on a truck or to let you go and pay back the school some other way. Don't sit around like a powerless slave to those morons starving and begging for sustenance.
PLEASE folks, get your own schooling. Community College, Driving Schools, etc... Beg, borrow and steal the money to do it. -
If you have to wait 5 weeks to go with trainer. I would think that would be a breech of contract because you are supposed to be working.
Jarhed1964 and Big Duker Thank this. -
