Hi there I'm looking for a little advice. I'm thinking about getting my own authority, buying a truck and hiring someone to drive it( so I can stay at my full time job). Do I need my own authority or can i lease to a company and how exactly does that work? If I lease to a company they get me the loads and the truck makes less or if I have my own authority can I go on load boards and make more money that way? What are the best steps to get this going off the ground? I know most will say that its a bad idea or don't do it, but I look at it in a positive way. Everyone starts out somehow and with one truck and either it works out or not . Thanks ahead for any advice!

Do you really have that much money to waste??
If you get your own numbers then somebody will have to be looking for lds. all the time. Do the billing and signing carrier agreements
Lease to a company and have them dispatch the trk..
Oh the driver gets pissed off and quits. Where's the trk. 2000 miles from you.
Now you have to go get the trk.. So guess who might be having to take time off from their regular job.
Think long and hard.
Oh, I got a buddy who will be running the trk...
Think long and hard please281ric Thanks this. -

No you find the driver in most cases. Some will help you with hiring, they would also have to pass the compaines
standards as well.
What kind of work are you looking at?

2) Drive at least a year as a company driver.
3) Buy a truck, lease on to company, and drive it yourself until you know what you're doing then possibly think about own authority.
Where do these "I want to buy a truck, put a driver in it, and get rich" people come from? Only way to make money with one truck is driving it yourself.cabwrecker Thanks this. -

I've been driving local for 5 years now so yes I do have a CDL and don't need truck school. The point of me trying to get into this as a owner operator and not drive the truck is to be able to keep my local job and having someone else drive the truck. I'm aware of all the expenses. It takes money to make money. I never said I'm trying to get rich quick.
