Anyone here been to that school? Heard it was a good place to start. I'm 50 yrs old, but have a clean driving record. Laid off a few weeks ago again and getting tired of it.(Construction/Golf Course maintenance) Live south of Myrtle Beach and was thinking about TDI and hoping to get in with Schneider.
What could one expect to earn realisticlly in the first year, if i made it through school and orientation and started OTR or Regional.
Any other advise?
TIA.

is that the 3 week long TDI? if it is my dad went there, theres allot of info to learn in school to squeeze into 3 weeks, i'd recomend you find a longer school.
Most first year OTR Drivers GROSS $25,000 - $35,000. There are a few companys where you can make more I made $46,000 my first year, companies like that you'll work your butt off for all that money.
My advice spend a few weeks on here, all day read as much as you can, learn all the good and bad that comes with this industry and seriously think weather or not this is for you. Then pick the best school you can find, time in the seat is KEY! Then do lots of reaserch on companies before you choose. Companys like Snider are on E-Logs and are governed at 60mph...it can be allot harder to make money under those conditions.
just my $0.02
Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply, yes it's the 3 week TDI School. I've been reading a lot here and everywhere else and I'm learning fast where not to go and what not to do.
Thanks again. -
I applied to go there. They waited until the friday before i started to tell me i had to get my own financing. So i didnt go. Jeff there is kinda lost on paperwork.

Thanks, I'm checking into Horry Georgetown Tech now, many say that's the way to go and very inexpensive.
I'll post what i find out, have you heard about anywhere else around us that's not a rip off? -
Dc training in florence is good. Theres also a palmetto truck driver traing, not sure about them though.

Squeegee...Thanks for telling me about DC in Florence, I may be on to something there. I found this in another post...
"If you are unemployed contact your unemployment office and see if they can get you a grant to attend your local school. The grant is issued under the stimulus package and the economic recovery and displaced workers act."
Checking into it tomorrow. -
Hey guys,
I will be attending TDI in the next week or two. Three weeks is a short amount of time, but as they say, there only teach you how to get your CDL. You learn how to become a driver after you go with a company trainer. I do believe that. If you think you may need more time or can't get the financing then look what fits for you. Luckily I have a GI bill to fall on. I'm originally from Florence, not sure about any of the other schools you have mentioned.
Good luck -
Ok xpiscott, Let us know how it goes. I have a few more weeks, before i decide which way to go. Not sure about anything yet except, I will not sign to be a slave to any starter company for a year or whatever. I'll find a way to pay for school myself.

Good luck. I kept my job, and am getting my cdl that way. Learning alot so far.
