Like the OP, I have been preparing for a trucking job in retirement. After several years of fits and starts,, I've finally found what I consider to be the best option for me.

I'm presently driving for a trailer leasing company. I deliver and pick-up empty trailers from customers, so a good bit of the driving is simply bobtailing.

It's part time, so I get a hourly rate, but no benefits. Rolling into 65, I intend to get medical coverage from Medicare. The job is basically all local, so don't need a logbook, and am home every afternoon.

I think the combination of a small pension, social security and the trucking income, will be a sufficient income package going forward, barring any catastrophic medical issues.

    homeskillet Thanks this.
