thinking become an O/O

    I am company driver ,and working for a large company for stright 12 yrs.now i 'm thinking quit ,and buy my owner truck to make more money.they pay me 41/mile, and i could get 10000miles/month,means i made $4100/month.if i pay cash to buy $45000 used truck,can i make more than $4100?

    Too many X factors to answer that. The simple answer would be yes, but guess who pays for all the breakdowns and lost time waiting? At your company wage, if it's consistent, I'd say you are better off staying put. 41cpm is a decent profit margin considering you don't pay for fuel,tires,taxes,breakdowns, or other misc things

    Wish it was as simple as that. Yes you will gross more revenue, earnings but it's the expenses you have to cover. Just buying a used truck alone is a crap shoot IMHO.
    you had better have a sizable glob of cash $$$ reserves if you want to go down the O/O road. One hefty truck repair bill can put you in deep financial trouble before you've even got going.
    Being paid by the mile is never always the best way to get paid. You can make a significant amount more if you go percentage of the gross rate as I found out. I haul chemicals via tanker. The mileage pay didn't come close to what percentage paid. You've gotta do your homework and look at every angle and possible scenarios. Oh and BTW hire a good tax accountant. Somebody who understands the trucking industry in and out.

    all rights on here's the bottom line been over operator is tough there are more headaches than you can possibly expect let's just start what's licensing sure you can go ahead and buy your truck unleash on to a company this is very much possible and if this is your route I can only hope that you go with landstar or mercer where you yourself are you dispatching however its not can you lease on to any other company you have basically bought your own truck to still be a company driver see you will be holding their trailers and they will be telling you where to go and want to get there which brings me to the next part of my attempt at helpbuy a trailer this way you can really be independent what's your own trailer your own truck I know you have options you did sign on two different companies to pull loads pretty much whenever you want OTR is a must I sent on operator I work locally for the past 6 months seems some good times seen some bad times mostly bad OTR is a must now you got your truck you got your trailer you're happier than a pig in slop know what now the state wants more money you're going to have to get your own sword assorti your own insurance your stuff I'm any other certifications please let's not forget the random drug test that you have to sign up for everybody's going to want to put their hand in your pocket welcome to the wonderful world of owner operator

    Please don't get it twisted....O/O is a big step..HUGE step...I have never been a company driver but sometimes I sure wish I could be. Yes, like Fandango stated, there are too many factors to untangle before you can justify the move. True, your earning potential can be increased however, your expenses and liabilities will increase astronomically. There are plenty of threads on here about this very subject. Just read everything you can about making that move. You will have to consider many many many things such fuel cost, PM cost, tires, lease on or independent, insurance, breakdowns, taxes, etc. Keep an open mind.....

    % don't always pay better. and doesn't pay deadhead miles.

    Thanks, I'm purchasing a truck for a friend, and have him pay me like 600.00 per week. Until paid, I want to get him loads so I can make some extra money and just send it to him what would be the best way to go about.? He was paying 940.00 a week for his lease. And left a major company. Any thoughts on this crazy idea. I'm thinking on buying a truck no older the 2011, freight liner or pester build, he told me these are good trucks.

    Like the others said I would stay were you're at. It's guaranteed money as long as you drive your miles. You should ask your boss/dispatcher for a raise. Being you were there for 12 years you have some leverage. I'm sure they'd rather give you another 2 cents a mile than see you leave.
