The second pay thing is true especially in the expedite and RV hauling sector . Drivers are paid tourists and allow carriers to offer rates a family man couldn't support a family on .

I started at 38 years of age, now 40. It was definitely an adjustment learning to be away from home and family, but I get home every weekend, and have a laptop and internet wherever I go so I can Skype the fam back home whenever I want and its almost like being there in the room with them. Rigorous hours most of the time, but I love what I do now. Much better than sitting behind my old desk in a tie... Ugh!

    I started in 1990, I got 18 1/2 cpm.

It was much easier to come back at age 44 than when I was 22.

I never heard of no 600 a week for training ... With that said, the pay out here varies and when ure home you make no money ... So if u still owe ure mortgage and/or have any car payments left, be prepared for some big adjustments ... Like for instance paying $20 for a hot meal

I think Prime pays $600 a week for training and you can get 2 pieces of pizza for $5 at Pilot/Flying J with your card .

I'm 43 and thinking about getting into it...completely burnt out on corp. america BS. Maverick pay $550 week while in training and starts at .36CPM thinking about joining them, but there are others. I think it's all about how you're mind set is just like anything else there are ups & downs.

I agree as well, I wore a shirt & tie until I decided to change careers at 53. Best decision I've ever made.

Add in a drink and something else and that slice of pizza comes in at over 10 bucks.
