Oh it very well could. It only takes one moron driving on your side of the road in a snowstorm to hit you. Any ambulance chaser will go after not only your other business but anything else of value you have. I suggest you look up the case against Werner in Texas from a half a dozen years ago.

    tscottme Thanks this.

I read about that and many others before but do you really think Werner paid that money themselves? As I stated in my previous posts, I'm in the tobacco/nicotine business now. So trust me I know fully what the implications are if you think being a target in trucking is bad or your insurance is bad, try selling tobacco products. I also know what having good insurance does, and yes I've been in part of a lawsuit, 4 times actually a couple by consumers(lawyers) and couple by states.

Just curious how you signed up with DAT without having your own authority..

DAT to me was a joke and a complete waste of money..cancelled my subscription after the first month.

As far as jumping right into the fire with your own authority, truck and zero experience…there’s going to be a few bumps along the way.

Your biggest hurdle will be finding an insurance company that will insure a new entrant with zero experience. Not sure if it’s even possible.

I had my authority and insurance before I had a CDL. So it’s definitely possible.

They didn't ask for one, one of the other sites did though. And yea I figured insurance would be the biggest hurdle at first.

I have no idea what if any "stupid jury decisions" insurance Werner has.
It's not that insurance is bad, it's that the immediate demand by lawyers will be over whatever the insurance coverage is and juries tend to side with the "victim." At least that's my experience having been the one hit by a truck.

yes the jury will side w/the victim 99% of the time, but in the Werner case they settled for 150m. Now in that particular case and most it's usually the victims atty dealing w/the insurance companies atty. And the victims atty knows well ahead of time what they can get usually just by the size of the company, do you think if that same thing happened to a one man operation they would of gotten $150m? No because odds are their insurance isn't even close to that whereas Werner having thousands of trucks you can bet has a lot more than your standard $1mil policy. and in that particular case their atty probably would of never even taken it if the accident was with a small time operation. That atty specializes in going after big payouts from big companies. That's the game, it's the same thing in the tobacco industry. One of the first things they want to look at is the insurance coverages.

No, the attorney will want to go after the max insurance and then whatever they can bleed out of the guy personally. Got a real nice house, car, boat, other business, not anymore. Like I said, that was the way the lawyer I had was talking, didn't appreciate being told I wasn't doing that to a the guy.
