Hi i need help. i am thinking of getting a volvo 670 with d13 for flatbed. with ishift transmission and 500 hp. I am getting it because most people i asked said it was good for fuel, but not sure if it will be good for hauling flatbed needs. i am hauling up to tri axle which i think is 100 000 gross weight max. If it is not that good i thinking of getting a volvo 730. Am i doing the right thing? please help. any other trucks good trucks?

Read up on the Volvo engines, they have some serious issues. Plus you pay a premium for Volvo parts.

Consider a Pete or KW, they tend to hold up better to the stress of heavy hauling. I have a Petr 387 with 475 Cat 18spd manual. Great truck, lots of room, and pulls the weight well.

if you run the D13 with the i-shift, you shouldnt have any pulling issues with it, they are factory 475 horse put can easily be upgraded to 500, the ishift tranny will be able to stand the upgrade as well. if you have your heart set on the volvo I would go with the 670. as far as engine issues, the major one that has been going on as of late is the injectors, but volvo has a new update kit that we have been installing in all of the trouble trucks and it has fixed the problem. not that I am correct, but working on and around these products for 15 years that is the way I would go for what you are wanting to do.

buy an old freightliner classic 12.7 s60 550 Detroit....and never look back again.....personal a truck is a truck its what you want. they all have issues. last time I checked the motors cat cumin and Detroit where made by their own companies and sold to the truck makers as a whole unit. not the truck makers making the motors enless you buy a vovlo motor or a freightliner with a MD or a max. point is same parts same componets just different styling....have fun

volvo cab is one of the best on word market. Version-2 cab is beloved by many drivers.

D13 is too technologically advanced engine made for future emissin standards so I'd say no reason to get D13 EPA 2012 ans I-shift. Too much money

So I'd choose ISX 11.9 XPI (HPI are not availbale now). For flatbeding I'd use flat top cab, no reason to use risen roof aka Globetrotter.

12.7 Series 60 is a good engine but made it end of 80-s so it cant meet new emissions and cant be availble on new truck. 12.7 is EPA 2002/Euro-II engine and you cant use it in places with emissiion level limitations, like "green zones", Cali....

The only way to get rebuild old engine in new truck is to get a glider kit
