So these few months I have been doing a ton of research in the trucking industry, there is a lot of bad but also good at the same time. Also, I been watching a lot of youtube truckers that tell the truth about trucking, but others are lies to get views. I know that no industry is perfect. But i am thinking of getting into trucking to change my life, I work a regular 9-5 job Mon-Fri and I was thinking about doing weekend classes for trucking because I live pay check to pay check. I actually have a BS in Kinesiology but the pay for this major is only between $11-15 an hr. I did get accepted into physical therapy school, but I dropped out because I didn't want to owe $250k (includes living expenses, plus a 6.8% interest rate). I still have school loans from my undergrad about $30k. After I dropped out of school, it took me 6 months to finally find a job, in this day and age, if you don't know anybody then your essentially screwed, unless you have really good profitable skills to show for the company, which i don't haha. My friend is a owner/operator in California and he's making as much as a college graduate, roughly gross of 90k but mostly net of 60k because of expenses. Anyways long story short, Im tired of living paycheck to paycheck and tired of clocking in and out, I rather be out on the road so it can teach me how to survive. I know trucking isn't for everyone but im willing to take that challenge. Any thoughts on weekend classes only and also any advice for a newbie haha.

Any advice? Advice on what? Training? Companies?
My biggest advice is do NOT go to a company paid school. If you do you will be their b^^^h for a year.Gatorgrl Thanks this. -
Check your local Community college
SidewaysBentHalo, Purplepete90 and Chinatown Thank this. -
check with the state rehabilitation, they have plenty of resources and can potentially put you where you will find it useful to learn how to handle a big rig. Crawl, then walk and later run.
Good luck.Chinatown Thanks this. -
Weekend classes are fine for someone in your situation; usually takes 12 weekend to complete the school. Get all endorsements before graduating.
You can also attend a trucking company school. Some starting pay for trucking company schools is more than many very experienced driver are making right now.
Where is your location? -

"There are approximately 3.5 million professional truck drivers in the United States, according to estimates by the American Trucking Association."
Read the quote above; there aren't 3.5 million horror stories. I quit watching YouTube videos of truckers because most are just whining and sobbing, yet they continue to drive. Ignore all that and get started. -
