I actually seen "chinatown' A LOT in the trucker forums haha so I have to thank him and all of the members on this post as well. I just had a question, is there a possibility to do local work straight after CDL school? My wife doesn't want me to do OTR but I told her it's pretty much mandatory for 6 months to a year haha. I read there's local LTL for prime, Schneider, and swift and also dedicated accounts as well.

I dont blame you not wanting to debt yourself 250k. That money you can invest and retire happy.

I teamed with a guy that went over the road with me 3 months, then went local. Ive seen other guys post here that said they did it right after school. I hate city driving so i couldn't do it. But you should be able to if it's what you want.

Yeah my friend is an O/O and he hates city driving because of traffic, whereas OTR you have more freedom and can do whatever you want. Only down fall is state troopers doing inspection on you or you have to pass the weigh in station

    TravR1 Thanks this.

In the year I have been driving I havent been inspected yet. Most weigh stations are closed, esp. Over night, and we reefer drivers do a lot of overnight driving.

We are occasionally pulled in to weigh, and then given the green light and off we go. Usually we are weighed right on the interstate and get the "OK to bypass" sign.

Just make sure you scale your loads before leaving the city and make them reload or take some stuff off if needed. You'll get training on all that.

Ohh got you, yeah your less likely to get pulled over for driving over night, it’s mainly day driving that sucks haha. Yeah I’m still trying to find a school that works for me since I work 9-5, I want to find a school that has weekend classes

Chino hills!? No wonder your living paycheck to paycheck....jk

I took weekend classes at roadmasters trucking school in fontana cause i couldnt afford to quit my $12hr warehouse job and man it was tough.

Having only weekends to practice shifting gears, alley dock, parallel park, angled backing was very tough cause i would forget everything starting monday

Took me 6 months to get my CDL nearly expired my permit. Failed the dmv test twice and on my 3rd try nailed it perfectly.

Did zero research on trucking companies went on with swift was OTR 3 months then got a call offering me a local dedicated amazon account $20hr. I stayed on that account the next 2 yrs.

Had a great experience at swift. Im with Old Dominion now linehaul out of rialto.

The weekend classes are gonna be tough learning everything cause you only have 2 days of practice but you'll eventually get it down. I did.

    Good luck man

Austin Community College. It was cheap enough I could usually just pay the bill out of pocket. I was working full-time so i could only do about 2 classes at a time, or just 1 if it was a math or science class. Took me about 6 years. Got credits for an AS & AA in general ed. Took a lot of history out of personal interest. Worked from basic math on up.

Whenever I retire I might go back just for something to do. I'm one of those weird types that likes school and reading textbooks.

My sister is a PT so I know its a very grueling processes. She got so stressed out a few times she would break down crying. She did it though, got through it. Its an alright career, she says.

Rialto and Chino Hills isn't too far off, roughly 35-40ish miles from each other, I actually heard a lot about roadmasters, there one of the only schools that allow for weekend classes. How much was the course? and how much did you pay for the 3rd try lol because I think you have to buy additional lessons if you fail. So how does the 3 months OTR work? Are you actually out for 3 months straight with no home time or are you just out 3-4 weeks at a time then back home for 1? Thanks for the reply.
