Hi y'all, I'm in the very early stages of becoming o/o. I would like to have my own truck within a few years, so I'm saving my pennies and doing research now. My plan is to buy a truck (with cash, not lease the truck) and lease with a company using their trailer. Here are my questions so far:
1: what am I responsible for obtaining? I.e. permits, authority...
2: what would be better, flatbed or van?

I'm currently pulling refers 48 state. I want to try flatbed eventually. I have been driving a year, which is another reason I am waiting a few years and trying to do my research. I've been reading posts and getting info from companies such as landstar. Amy help is greatly appreciated. Thanks friends

    Hi Chevyluver (72'HeavyChevy).............

Do Not Sell your soul to the devil and 'lease' on with anyone! Lets get that out of the way first.
Do you Truly in your Heart want to do this? Theres no 'halfway' here. its either your in 100% or your not.

My name is Mick,I have been in transportation since 1989, I am an Independent owner-operator..
You can Succeed in trucking and live good if you follow my helpful advice.

When you are Ready to tacxkle this........You MUST have the rightb attitude and CONFIDENCE..I stress confidence because others will try to bring you down
DO NOT buy a truck and lease it onto a carrier.......The Carrier can smell your Blood,They want your truck Sooo Bad they can smell it.You will be doing Nothing more than putting them into financial gain ,while you just 'get by'....At the cost of your sweat.

If you truly have a desire to be an 'owner-operator'...DO IT RIGHT.

Buy your truck(s) AND trailer(s) and your own Operating Authority..AFTER you line up Some customers.
It is very hard work..But High Risk equals High reward.

Upfront Capital is IMPORTANT also.......I will continue on if you are interested on hearing more..

    Let me Know

like how the idea is in the thinking stages. with a possibility of may be becoming a reality in a few years.

save up your pennies, and when a few years passes. then give it some thought. a few years is a long time and anything can happen between now and then.

for all you know. you might not even be trucking in a few years. but instead, doing some other profession.

Farm2Fleet and Greatwide both have programs where you use your tractor and their trailer.
