I have three trucks, my on rights and my own fuel accounts. Ive been talking to a fedex ground recuiter and I'm leaning very hard towards joining maybe about the in of this year or the first of next year. I would like to get so some insight form linehaul contractors that are already in there working. I wil be coming in as unassigned driver would like to know if the trucks will work five days a week, my wife is a driver and would like to also if they would let her drive during the day do to the fact that we have a two year old child and she is my wife I feel safer that way, we may have to move closer to the hub because the in my area is small and pretty much sowed up by a guy thats been there since RPS and I dont mind that. To me it seems like if you dont mind working you can grow there. I have read so negtive reviews and jus want to know whats up. Any and all info will help. Thanks in advance.

First off, I'm not a contractor but....I spent over 5 years working for two contractors. One was out of the St. Paul hub and the other was out of the Phoenix hub. Both routes were what's called "satelite" trips where the driver runs from a terminal to a hub and back every night. They were great jobs especially the one out of Phoenix until Fedex started playing politics. They took some work (trailer spots) away from my boss and gave it to another contractor. This cut my wages by 20%! I had to leave. Most of their linehaul positions are team operations where you run hub to hub and have a set schedule which is EASY to meet. I used to get a kick about guys showing up late. There was really no reason for this except poor planning. This is called a "failed service" and if you get more than a couple of these they will terminate your contract. Really no excuse for this. Hub to hub means you will be home on a regular basis. For example, there were guys that ran Phoenix-Harrisburg or St. Paul-Dallas I think. You will probably "run wild" which means you will not have a regular schedule and will go where they tell you to go. I probably would not reccomend this unless you like being on the road for a long time. MAybe things have changed since I've been there because I left in 2006 but when I was there I would constantly see TEAMS sitting in the Phoenix yard waiting on loads. As a team this is not profitable but who knows it may have changed. You said that area is pretty much "sowed up by a guy." This is typical of Fedex Ground. That's how it works. The guy I worked for in St. PAul was probably the top contractor and he paid me pretty well but ran very nice equipment. The guy I worked for out of Phoenix was not one of the top guys but paid me very well. It showed though when Fedex showed favortism to another contractor ahead of him. BTW it is forced dispatch or at least it was which may not sound too bad but let's say you arrive in Harrisburg and they tell you that they have a load that has to go 200 miles (especially during the holidays) and you and your partner will have to wait 3 hours for it to be ready. I used to see this all the time and couldn't help but think of how much money these contractors were NOT making. I'm sure there are others that will contradict me but this is what I saw. If you can, enquire about a satelite position or a hub to hub dedicated run. These are money makers. They used to have a really good fuel program there but I'm not sure if they still do. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. I try to ask people about fedex but most just get quiet. And I see alot of negtive info about them but most seems like it comes from lazy and hard to please drivers. Again thanks
