Five loads per week are usually expected for the line haul drivers who will get home every weekend. These line haul runs are within the number of miles you can legally do in one day. What they try to plan for is you starting your day at or close to where you are going to deliver and having the majority of your day left when you get empty. This doesn't always happen of course. I am on the longhaul division but I do a lot of short line haul runs in the northeast. Just this week I loaded on Monday in Maine near home and arrived at my consignee in York PA about 11pm after having run 620 miles or so, (kicking myself for not having gotten started sooner) I unloaded in the morning and sent my empty at 9am after having my ten hour break. I got a run with a 208 mile bounce (empty deadhead) and 199 loaded miles taking me to Johnstown NY. I had enough time to arrive and park at the consignee but needed a tire fixed and so spend the night at TA in Harborcreek PA, leaving me with 45 miles to go Wednesday morning. I got unloaded and bounced 58 miles down into PA , and missed my load appointment by ten minutes, so I got bumped back an hour and was there 2.5 hours getting loaded and secured. That load took me to long Island, NY and I could deliver until 3pm thursday. With 365 miles loaded miles to go I should have been able to make the entire run and park at the consignee, but I was fighting a cold and needed a good meal and a hot shower, besides I had until 3pm. I was empty before noon and could have taken another line haul run to deliver Friday but instead got a long run taking me to Texas. So for line haul drivers the load per day is entirely doable. It means you take a load home for the weekend to deliver monday, usually heading out Sunday afternoon to park at the consignee for monday delivery, so basically your weekend is one day and two nights at home. It may work out longer of course but that is the basic idea.

Anyone know if Rawlco is still with TMC? Haven't seen a post by him for a while (unless I missed something). Wanted to see how it was still working out, driving for TMC and living in Maine. My brother is thinking doind similar, he's in Mass.

Yup I am still with TMC, like Terry said I have been busy lately and have had trouble getting free time to line up with internet access.
It is working out great for me still. I had a poor paycheck a couple of weeks ago when the trucks water pump failed in my driveway at home so my weekend stretched to five days, but I suppose home is the best place to be broken down.
I am happy with the way TMC treats me and for me the pay is pretty good. I could do better without all the weather delays I have had these last 3 weeks, but at least is hasn't been as bad as Eckz where they had Wyoming shut down on him last week.
In Mass you can get on the linehaul fleet and be home weekends, with some experience there are several dedicated opportunities in that area as well.
Jamiedezz: I suggest you re-apply in the spring when freight picks up and you might get hired then. Good luck. -
yeah i just might do that.... but i also just got word that a delivery co. right around here in mo-town wv may be looking for a few drivers to deliver mining equipment such as roof bolt and things of that matter....and pay start is kinda decent at i think $14 an hour...but idk there is just something about driving an 18 wheeler that gives me a certain feeling idk...you guys may know what im talking about...

After doing a lot of research and reading on this website. I decided to go with TMC. I am now in my fourth week with my trainer. I can honestly say I believe I made the best choice by going with TMC. My trainer has been awesome teaching me everything about the TMC way of doing things. My trainer is a line haul driver but we stayed out three weeks to run out west becuase the money was right on a load and I wanted to see the "wild west" I went to orientation in Columbia but while we were out we went to Des Moines and I couldn't believe the terminal everything was first class. One thing is for sure when you are out on the road everybody is always talking about TMC and how nice the equipment is. IF you want to drive nice equipment, work a little bit harder then everyone else and make what I believe is good money, go with TMC. but if your afraid of work and doing things the right way go join Swift. Thanks to everyone who helped steer me in the right direction.
