See, reverse psychology! I recommend Swift and they don't want to go! I should have been doing that all along I guess.

Hey Bronco , sorry to hear about the job. You have several options in the trucking industry. Look at community colleges, some are only 3-4 weeks, just like a truck school and are state subsidized, so cost to you is about half.
On top of that, look at WIA, if you qualify, it will pay for your schooling. There are several better companies than Swift/CREngland, etc, that will train you. Problem there is you are committed to them for at least a year, quit early and you owe $4-5k. This has screwed over many drivers.
There are a couple that will take care of the cost of the school THEY SEND you to if you do a year, one comes to mine is Roehl. Knight has a good training division call Squire and FFE will send you to a school also. I believe Watkins and Shepherd up in your area also has some program.
There is a school here in Okla that is one of the best, Central Tech. several companies have a tuition payback, such as Conway truckload.
Guess what I am saying i don't jump now with all the emotions. Take your time, do some research, and take your best option. get on unemployment to get some income now and research, call, research, research.
Best of luck -
If this guy likes running hard in a 4 wheeler maybe he should check out Expediting?
Aside from sales in general it seems like he has good business and management background maybe he could be a Sprinter?
Start with a fleet owner and then later get his own van and run the highways.
I've considered Expediting myself but haven't found the right job yet. I was close to TryHours but they couldn't offer any benefits. -
Good point V.D.! Expediting is a really good gig! You don't have to worry about parking or low bridges either! Hell, you can go through the drive thru at McDonalds in an expedite van! Someone posted some really cool pictures of the inside of one all set up here on the forum. Pretty tight little set-up. It was just like a sleeper on a regular big rig.

One thing will take many years of learning. HOW to handle a Big truck. You just dont jump up into a Tractor Trailer, and away you go. NOT going to happen. He has to go to one of them Schools, and learn to speak spanish, polish, russian, so he can communicate with fellow Newbies. After all that, many years of driving on the road. One ##_k up and your back at the desk. No one will hire you. I cant wait for the CSA 2010 to kick in fully and get rid of the horse #### drivers that dont belong on the roads. Tickets, accidents will do you in for sure. So you wont need any help, you can do it all on your own. Good Luck.
Rerun8963 Thanks this.
