need your opinion out there please , I am thinking of riding along with my husband , I understand the close quarters and all that, but I do have a few questions ? I pay all our bills online is there a way to do that OTR? or is it best to call in ? how do you get the internet OTR ? have any of you done this if so how do you handle your situation during time off ?? and if you have a vehicle do you store it? I am thinking economically it may work because we could pocket all we pay in rent and utilities and save up for a place of our own . I realize we wouldn't be able to make bathroom stops when he has a specific time to get a load dropped off, and right now I believe he has to be with the company for a certain amount of time before he can have a rider. I am just doing the research before a decision is made. my children are grown and live in NJ I live in California so I really have nothing holding me here, any advise that you can give me would be appreciated .

If you have a smartphone, it likely has a "hotspot" feature that will allow a laptop to connect to the internet via your phone's data connection. Otherwise, you'll have to seek out McDonalds who offer free wifi at most locations.

It can be great or it can suck from the get-go. All depends on how well you guys connect on a personal level. If you tend to argue a lot, you'll argue much more once couped up together. The truck likely has 2 beds, one on top of the other. They are probably too narrow to sleep 2 comfortably unless you spoon well together all night.

Adjusting to truck stop showers can be a challenge for some. He may be in and out and ready to go in 30 minutes, you may not be able to. Hopefully you will spring for hotels 1 or 2 nights a week. These cut into your "profit" but can make the experience more manageable over time. Days where you need to shut down early afternoon are best days to utilize a hotel to get the maximum benefit and time out of the truck and maybe to do laundry. Truck stop laundries are hit and miss. Try and take your easiest care clothes to simplify things. Summer wear now, but in a month or 2 you'll want to trade out a few summer outfits for cooler weather that will soon arrive in the northern climes.

The vehicle hopefully can be stored at one of the terminals as if it were another company driver's vehicle.

It can be a great experience if you "travel well". The scenery and the experiences will be great some days, other days will seem like a real drag. Maybe you can enjoy the fall colors, then the first snows. Trucking OTR is a "lifestyle" and is better suited to some then others. Best wishes to you both. Any other questions don't hesitate to ask.

yes we very rarely argue . as far as showers I am usually faster than he is LOL , the truck does have beds one on top of the other , I am also thinking of investing in the nu wave induction cooktop it is small and portable that way we can cook on the road. I was an air force brat so traveling is in my blood and I have been sort of a gypsy most of my life. my husband goes mostly through the 11 western states so as far as clothes I was thinking maybe a couple of sweaters a jacket couple pairs of pants and a couple of t shirts. my husband has tried the phone hot spot and it was just way to slow is there anything else we can do ?

How many men truly want their wives with them 24/7? If asked by their buddies, I'm guessing 99/100 would say hell no.

I don't take that to mean they don't like their wives, only that they get along best when not together all the time.

The ones that happily ride together full time fascinate me - hopefully you will be one of those couples.

    Best of luck.

If you're old school, as in devoted to support your husband, it can work. He will be the Captain of the ship/truck. Very few women these days are interested in that role.

I have a newer verizon iPhone and I also have a Verizon hotspot device I have through a verizon reseller ... http://millenicom.com it's a 20 gig plan, no contract, $89.95 month. If you go over just occasionally, they won't ding you for overage fees but if you make it a habit, they will.

Both provide pretty snappy service when you are in LTE range but so long as you have a good 4G connection, the speed is typically fast enough to view HD youtube vids and even stream netflix with only rare delays. Some areas can be sluggish but these are far and few between.

    You bet correctly patty.

But, I'm not down on marriage - just the odds. Most marriages don't last. Of those that do, how many are really happy - maybe 10%? I'm envious of those folks, but not enough to risk those odds again.

BlairandGretchen being happy and teaming together blow my mind and my hat is off to them.
