Most of the lads I ran down to Spain with are driving containers out of Southampton docks now, and they say that they wouldn't do continental again.
I always stopped at victors, they used to cook my stake 'just right' there. Got locked up there once, for parking my rig on the hard shoulder of the N1. The red berry brigade tried to get £400 out of me for illegal parking, I told them "I'm not f****** paying that, that's a rip off, bring back Franco" then chucked them the wagon keys, thinking I could call there bluff, but they just put my keys in there pocket, hand cuffed me, and took me to the nick, in Burgos until the fine was paid off. I was pulling a Ralph Davis reefer at the time, so Ralph payed the fine, then took it off the invoice, never was asked to subbie for Ralph again, can't think why. I always used to stop at the flaggs as well on top of the somme sierra on the N1 heading for Madrid, I had to, the old Merc 220/33 would be boiling up by the time I chugged to the top, had to let her cool down before heading down the other side, then had to stop to let the brakes cool down. It is steeper than it looked, caught many a newbe out. They used to think that going over 'shap' was steep. They used to overtake me goping down the other side, then 15 minutes later beeped my horn at them while they where choking on the smoke from there trailers.
Here's a funny fact - Why is it that I get plastured in s***, when stripping out a brand new tilt trailer? Is the s*** already stuck to the sheet and put there by Dennison trailers? if so, was it included in the price?????

Doing the boxes are ok if you want all year round bread & butter work, but no good if you want to earn some money. I could'nt have 9 hours sleep, drive for 3 hours, and then sleep again for 3 hours. Done my head in after a while. Had the cleanest cab on the road though!!!!!!

Alberta, and a peterbilt don't know which one, its a mid line cab so only twice the size of my FH !! varied work but mostly texas ,thats one offer the other is mainly canada & northern usa but to be dead honest i am waiting for the total financial package to be sent to me and then i will decide what's best for the family, there are a few options open to me but wont know/decide for definate until after i come back from orlando.
My best mate moved over about 6yrs ago,he's in orangeville ontario and absolutely loves it ,i cant move to ontario at the moment because basically the canadian govt say where & when foreign labour is needed, unlike the tossers running this country !! we have been to ontario quite a few times to see jay but also to watch the hockey and we are going to orlando with friends from toronto ,they are canadian ,so i have looked at moving over since before jay went but now i only have my youngest (20yo) son and my 10yo daughter at home my 2 elder lads have moved out and have there own families, will miss the grankids and my lads but realy theres absolutely f*** all left for my younger family in this dumping ground of the world !!!!:yes2557:

It all sounds good, so I hope you get what you want. Any Peterbuilt sounds better than an FH. A couple of years ago, I seen an owner/driver at Thamesport container berth, Isle of grain with an an american spec volvo, on container work. He let me have a good look around it. It had the big american sleeper cab with all the luxories, but still had the european comfort. 20 years ago, whilst going to Italy, I met up with a guy that let me have a drive from Aosta, down to Milan, in his Kenworth K100 Airodyne Whopper. It was all chrome and lights, and everyone stopped to stare at it, but it was a f****** nightmare to drive. Fixed steering wheel, ratley windows, no forward vision, hit your knuckles on the bottom of the dashboard when changing gear, horrible mirrors, no brakes, and bloody noisy, although it did sound nice when pulling hard, but I would'nt have liked to have drove it all the time. To be quite honest, was glad to get back into my crampted little Mercedes 2020/33.
