A little background about myself - been sitting at a desk for 15 years and don't think I can take much longer. My father is a retired teamster so I grew up around trucking, not necessarily OTR trucking but I know the basics of the business. Trucking has always been something I've figured I'd end up doing at some point in my life. Over the last couple years I have read so many reviews that it just makes my head spin at this point. I went ahead and applied for a training job with TMC and was approved to attend their program. I've read through all the documents they've provided me and am supposed to reconnect with them on Monday. They said they can push the start date out as far as 60 days but I doubt I'd wait that long. I'm in Central Ohio and see plenty of TMC trucks going up, down and across 71 & 70 so I believe they're recruiter when she said they have plenty of freight in the area. Other than TMC the only other company I've applied at ABF but it's a very difficult gig to get and haven't heard back from them. It's only been a week so I don't know if I should sit tight or go ahead and accept the job at TMC to get started.
Assuming that I take the job at TMC I'd like to hear any first hand accounts from anyone that has left a stable job/career to join TMC or another trucking company. Based on advertised "average" pay and whats reported on other sites like Glassdoor and Indeed, the income would pretty much be a wash.
The only thing that I haven't verified at this point is what the fee would be if I didn't complete the 1 year. Recruiter said $2500 which isn't to bad but haven't seen it in writing yet. I just requested they send me the disclaimers of the contract but imagine I won't hear back till Monday.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thinking starting a career at TMC - Central Ohio?

ABF and YRC both have cdl training programs, but it takes forever to do the interviews, paperwork, background checks, etc., like weeks and weeks.
Millis Transfer has their own cdl school in Trenton,OH.
Lots of TMC drivers post on here, so maybe one will post soon.JC0804 Thanks this. -
If your current job is a 40 hr. week the pay WILL NOT be a wash, You'll be living in that truck 5 days a week and pushing 70 hrs. a week

There's lots of good paying jobs to look forward to.
I don't know what TMC paychecks look like, but maybe that's one of them.
Millis Transfer drivers post they make $50K+ right out of their school.
Ohio has plenty of tanker jobs that pay over $60K even for new driver that attend private cdl schools and that's what you will make after finishing your contract with TMC or which ever company, then going to tankers.
Line haul is another good paying job for the future; after 12 mos. experience. $70K at least.
Ohio is loaded with those good paying jobs.
Nick Strimbu Inc. in Brookfield, OH is Teamsters and I understand their refrigerated division makes good paychecks.
I'll give you some company names if you want to start a list for your future plans.JC0804 Thanks this. -

I never worked for tmc but my good buddy did, he stated the following your start around 25 percent or so and the main thing about them is park on Sundays so you can make more revenue to the truck and if for whatever reason you can't park on Sundays fleet managers be throwing a tantrum. Overall he stated is an okay company to start but not too stay for long haul. Good luck on your career and hope you make a wise decision.
