Hey Kritter11B3, I am a MSARNG soldier myself...AGR, retiring in Jan 2012. Looking at hitting the road after retirement. TMC is on the list of possibilities. Let me know what you think about them...hit me on PM when you get a chance.

Everything is good with tmc. Been in my own truck for a month now and all is good. Just know that tmc has the longest orientation out there. Which is a good thing, you get another week of driving to familiarize you with the 13 speed. But anothee week of classroom and paperwork. They expect you to know your sh#t when you get there and handle yourself accordingly. They dont have time for childish issues, and are not affraid to tell you how you can be fired. Keep yourself compossed and be where you are supposed to be at the right time and you should be fine. Stay off the grass and away from people acting like a fool.
If you make it to a trainers truck, DO NOT ARGUE WITH HIM, trainers have the right to put you out n e where they want and its left up to u to find a way home. If for an instant you think that you have a crappy trainer or he is just using you for a log book and not teaching you anything request a new trainer, that will look bad on him not you.
Once you get in your own truck, you can either go % which will allow you to get a raise every month, start @23% top at 32%, mileage starts at 35cpm. Ive been homeevery weekend since I started otr training. The trade off is you will run your butt off to do it. They expect five loads a week or 2500-3500 gross to the truck a week. You dont get to choose your truck but no matter what you will be in a chromed out peterbuilt, whether it be a 379, 387, or a 388.
Well hope this gives you a lil insight. By the way most of the ones you hear complaining about tmc are the truck stop rangers that dont want to run hard to get home. Yes they expect to GET your truck washed once every two weeks. They expect YOU to keep the inside clean. To easy right. You'ld be supprised how many people cry about having to keep a clean truck.....coolhandkh Thanks this. -
Kritter11B3,
Glad to hear your new job is working out for you. I am new to this board but have been driving for many years. I found this board while trying to look up info on TMC for my son. He has come of age and wants to drive trucks. (I DON'T KNOW WHY. LOL!) The boy has wanted to drive ever since he was a young child and I would take him around the country in my trucks. And I have told him for years this business is what you make it.
There are PLENTY of complainers out on the road (Just turn on a CB) There is always someone out there to cry about our industry but yet doesn't want to get off there butts to make it better. You just have to block all that out and keep trucking. If a man (or woman) wants to work... then trucking will reward him for life. If a person wants to be a cry baby... then they will FAIL in this industry. The only person that will still have a job when truckers don't is the undertaker. You have a great attitude (Probably because of the military) and you will go far in this industry.
But anyway, thanks for the info on TMC you (And the others) answered alot of the questions I had about them. And I think if my son chooses TMC it will be good for him also.
I run a dedicated run up I-59 to McCalla Alabama from the Mississippi gulf coast every night so if you ever see my bright yellow peterbuilt pull'n a A&R bulk tank give me a hollar!
Best wishes and keep the shiney side up!
