Thanks for the insight on TMC Kritter, I am trying to decide on a FB carrier to go with, and your info has been most helpful. Much of what has been said about TMC here is not positive, but it seems that the driver attitude has much to do with that.

Tmc is a really good company. Drewfus you are exactly correct about driver attitude. Some cant get along with some of their policies. If you work hard, keep your cool in tough situations and can take on for the team (not the best load, ect.) you will do great with them. Kritter, glad to hear your doing good, if your ever up in jersey getting shingles at owen corning, come on up and say hi.

As with most other trucking companies TMC has its share of good and bad. I really think TMC is one of the better companies out there. That being said, don't discount the bad stories as "driver attitude" or "drivers fault" a lot have legitimate grips. True some might just be bashing TMC or can't take the normal aspects of trucking, but don't assume its all of them.

Good thread. Had TMC recruiter come to school today and do his deal. Gotta say that I did feel better about them than Werner when they came last week. He (Adam) was pretty straight about the job and pay.

I'm wondering about the home location as it relates to hometime though. Does closer mean more? Or is it even relevant?

The work side of flatbed is pretty attractive, even in crappy winter weather (I'm a glutton for punishment, yeh, another Marine ;-) ), makes me feel better about gettin paid.

Anyway, thanks for the insights from everybody, still have six weeks left of school and tryin to narrow down.

Adam came to my school. He was straight forward with my class too. Even to tell some tmc wasnt for them. In wv, i can think of at least 10 shippers within the 11 hour drive window. Now if you are in tn yhursday and get a load to tx for friday del, you aint getting home. Most fm's are good at getting you home unless you wanna stay out but sometimes their hands are tied. It is hard work but i would rather be out in the snow tarping than sitting in the sleeper for 7+ hours like van n reefer guys have to. (Ive also worked outside all my life) best of luck just ask or check out the other threads on here, most have good info in them. See ya on the jersey turnpike.

Advice: Read every word you can about every trucking company you are interested in. Find other sources of information, too, not just TTR. Then consider what you've learned against what you know about yourself and most of all, be realistic in your expectations. OTR means OTR. Tarping an uncooperative load happens. Blowing snow and chaining happens. And driving 10 hours a day, every day, for a career can get old.

If none of that scares you away and you can imagine yourself in the driver seat, at night, in bad weather, going to a place you've never been before, with equipment that isn't quite working right, refer to the first paragraph and go for it. Thousands have done it before you and thousands will do it with you.

Your so close to Baltimore, DC, Frederick MD, its not even funny! That's probably the busiest freight lane in the country. You'll do fine get home every week end and make real good $. Make sure you pick percentage most of your runs will be real short.
