I dont buy passenger vehicle tires that dont have a 50k mile warranty... And I generally get 60k plus out of them.

Economics, not government mandates, has always driven technological shifts. And a full on shift to electric vehicles isn't economically feasible for two reasons : we have too much oil, and the grid isn't up to the task of charging all of them. The former is why we have a war against petroleum being waged by the green weenies in Washington. And despite all the hoopla about wind and solar, and considering how hated coal is by those weenies, nuclear is our only real option. And they hate that more than coal! (Nevermind that coal releases huge amounts of radioactivity) Much hand waving will be needed to hide this reality, but look: "SQUIRREL!"
So we have the current push, as if putting a new style of horse in front of all the carts will magically make things better, without ever really considering how to feed the dang things.
Frankly, I think batteries are a stop gap at best. Fuel cells make much sense for mobile applications, and that's really where the research money should be spent. Unless someone finds the magic trick to make fusion safe, scalable, and small.
Artificially driving petroleum prices up may be fueling the current electric vehicle craze, but because it's not an organic, economically-driven shift, the reality is its a house of cards awaiting collapse. Add in that most don't understand how deeply embedded petrochemicals are into all sorts of technologies, and spiking those prices will have further (and widespread) deleterious economics effects, it should be obvious how precarious this whole green shift really is.
But the useful idiots will continue their happy dance as they destroy our economy, all the while blithely ignoring the exponential emission growth in Asia that will simply overwhelm any savings here.
Tl;dr: The craze for electrics is not driven by economics, nor technology, but by political forces.Another Canadian driver, petefan4000, Trucker61016 and 7 others Thank this. -

Have you seen what air traffic control towers have been doing with remote tower locations and cameras?
Pioneering remote aviation control tower landing at Selma airport
I think one day we will drive a truck from our home office
One minute in LA and the next in NYC
We will be in several locations throughout our daily shift like a video game
I wouldn’t have a issue with an electric truck but the two big problems I see are charging it. Either the time. Availability. Or locations
And the operating cost will have to be more than the charge costs
You can’t pull all that tax per gallon money out of the equation via electric without finding a per mile rate or something to put it back in
I think it will be $1 per mile or more for that on the ifta sideAnother Canadian driver, Trucker61016 and chimbotano Thank this. -

I saw a documentary about the Tesla so called “self driving” crashes. There was also a lot of video of the test where the engineers would have to have their hands an inch from the steering wheel because it would suddenly steer into a parking meter, or a pedestrian and there were some really close calls and they did strike some utility poles.
They also interviewed a lot of former engineers that had resigned from Tesla as they were horrified at some of the False claims Elon Musk would make at his press conferences.
Batteries are crazy expensive to replace as well.
No way I’d ever buy one. It’s a scam designed for yuppie hipsters to be able tell their friends how environmentally conscious they are.Another Canadian driver, Trucker61016, W923 and 5 others Thank this. -
My question would be how long does the battery last and how much to replace it.
Solar and wind power will never provide enough power. So if they are serious they should be building nuclear plants instead of shutting them down.Another Canadian driver, GYPSY65, chimbotano and 1 other person Thank this. -
I totally approve of you buying one so I can check it out when it’s on the side of the road solar charging
