Why would u use a magnetic whip when 99% of otr trucks have places to mount an antenna hell if you wanna move trucks a lot just get a vise grip mount they work good. As for the radio i prefer galaxy thats whats in my tractor and its the only thing ill ever buy again. I have the 959 only draw back is the rb i forget to shut off all the time other than.that great radio paired with a 5 1/2 ft francis whip. Swr 1.5 on 1 20 and 40 with everything canked to the max

SWR is a measure of how much signal is going out as opposed to how much is not. The lower the number, the better signal you're putting out. Keep it at 1.5:1 if you can, 2..0:1 is ok, 3.0:1 and more stop transmitting and figure out what's wrong.

Either the 959 or the 980 will work. The 980 will be more stable on sideband - the 959 you might find yourself playing with the clarifier until it warms up.

Of course either radio IMO is really only good if you use SSB. Otherwise it's a useless feature for a straight AMer only.

And why would someone purchase a mag mount....is because they're putting it on a "4 wheeler" and only for temporary purposes....in which yes the Wilson 5k is good, but a 1k will also do you just as good, for less.

thanks, yea I had forgot that I wont need the magnetic mount for my truck as it will have one,, lol

I am really considering this one as I like cool looking and working this: Connex cx-566SB CB Radio, AM-SSB Multi Colored LED

Plus I found a place that has no questions asked warranty on it and all the jazz, I like the specs on it and looks cool as well,,

But I am on the fence and will probably go with the either the 959,, although the 980 looks sweet as well as the Connex,, decisions decisions lol

The 959 is not a bad radio but tuned up will only do around 30 watts.
The Galaxy DX94HP and the DX98VHP are the big dogs in the Galaxy line and are export radios capable of 100 to 200+ watts.
It just depends on how much money you want to spend.

The Wilson 2000 or 5000 trucker series are fine antennas. The 5000 is really over kill unless you plan on pumping thousands of watts through it.

Take a look at Bells CB,they have a ton of SSB radios.....Good people to deal with too.
Also look at the Ranger radios, they are nice SSB units and stable on side band.

Connex as a brand is a good radio but i have never seen that model. gijoes is not the best to deal with, they have bad reviews.
Bells has a good Tech and sets them up right. They are great about answering the phone and any questions you have.
20 bucks less for that 980 too.

I would add an extra 100 bucks or so and go with the higher end Ranger.

A little more money but 150+ watts...
