The only thing I don’t understand about the story is that he was doing coke and falsifying his log book but it says it took him 11 days to get from CA to Detroit.

In the world of drugs, if you introduce some good stuff into your body you go off line. It might take half a day for you to wake up mean and cranky (And in withdrawal...)
That must have been a one hell of a good drug supply if it took him 11 days to go through it all.
Imagine the howls from FFE if wife and I turned in a 11 day trip between LA and Avenel. We have actually raced to intercept trainers and trainees who needed three just to get past the American SW indian casinos and thus were late. -
