Two days ago my delivery in Virginia got stalled for 12 hours because the receiver was shutdown all night. Then today in Lexington KY my truck nearly slides down a cliff at the receiver because the whole place was a thin layer of snow covering an inch of ice. Th ups driver that pulled in while i was struggling with getting into the dock got his own truck stuck and had to go get a shovel and some sheets of mdf board before he finally got out. Now the load i just got turns out the shipper is shut down.

One year I worked between Xmas and new years..all the shippers were open but all the receivers had to be called in to unload me.

I had a few that were closed today.

Flatlands trucking 101. Do NOT back down into loading docks after a snow storm. You won’t make it back out.

I delivered to a forklift place today with a dock that I had no intention of backing into for exactly that reason, so I backed in off the road to make sure I’m facing out, liftgated the skid off, and hand trucked it to the door. While doing this, I spy Simple Simon with A. Duie Pyle who backed into the dock like an idiot and now he’s stuck.

I bet with the storm coming and everyone not wanting to go, flatbed loads going into Texas may actually pay over $2/mile for once LMFAO

I swear 80% of the loads posted to Texas pay between $1.50 and $1.80.

Always wonder how they get anyone to go there, cause the loads leaving pay just as bad!!!

It always amazes me the amount of work some people will do to get unstuck. Takes literally 5 minutes to throw a chain on.

Most of the eastern US doesn't even allow the use of chains on public roads so trucks that stay east don't have them. I only carry mine when I run west a couple times a year and I can't even put them on without pulling my fenders off the truck. Closing in on 15 years OTR now and the only time I've ever put chains on was in my parking lot at home time make sure they fit and that I knew how to do it.

Half the places that are getting hit by these storms don't even have plows or awd/4wd vehicles. 1/2" of snow shuts down the south until it melts.

    Depends on your fitness.

I can't do it anymore without a ton of icy hot and Tylenol.

When I lived in the Dallas area the state didn't even have salt to spread, just sand.
