This is not a question of rights and wrongs. It is obvious that the passing truck was reckless and dangerous.

The argument is developing around whether or not Scottie could have and should have done something to avoid being part of the other driver's stupidity.

What the video doesn't show is those big western mirrors that give the driver a clear preview of the coming attractions. I believe Scottie deliberately chose his course of action long before we see the other truck enter the scene.

By his own admission Scottie recently bragged about herding in a passing truck while driving his car. Scottie is a menace to the motoring public and when he gets around other dangerous drivers he chooses to amplify the situation rather than use defensive techniques to de-escalate the situation or avoid them entirely.

Oh hey, I ain't arguing with that at all.

It was just a bit stupefying to read people saying that the blue truck had the right of way.

    I had forgotten about that
Was that when he sped up his car to prevent a truck overtaking him ?

I just watched the full video. I had a nearly identical setup to this situation last week.

I was NB on US 141 in Wisconsin. Got to a passing lane and the truck behind me took the left lane. It was clear that he wanted to go faster than me. About halfway through the passing lanes he barely caught my trailer, so I cut the cruise to help him out. He still couldn't make the pass, so I touched the brakes just a bit and he made it safely by. No near miss, no drama, no dash cam.

With my ungoverned truck, I could have easily put the hammer down and made him ride behind, but why? That's just being a jerk. I also could have done what Scottie did, maintain my lane and speed and then have a forced situation at the end, but that's too dangerous for my taste.

Instead I did what Scottie refuses to do, I backed off long before there was a situation. Scottie has said multiple times that if you're going to pass him you better have the power to do it quickly. This is just another example of how dangerous he is and how being right isn't always the safe or smart thing.

I had the right of way today when I moved over to keep an idiot 4 wheeler from hitting the barrels when he didn't know how to merge. I don't have the time to always hold my ground. I'd rather just get to my next destination incident free.

The fast truck had miles of a passing lane to pass, he failed to pass Scotty during that section and should have waited till the next passing lane.
If I would have seen he couldn't pass me before the lane ended, I would have been in the left lane earlier to block him.

Definitely, moving over early is another option and probably the best for this situation. I've done this many times, but usually with 4 wheelers who want to crawl past.

That's why it's critical to know what's going on and not wait for the end. Also, that way you can move over when there is enough room for it not to surprise the idiot in the left lane who thinks he can walk past.

Honestly I don't think Scottie is in the wrong here. That other guy was clipping along and passed like an idiot. That being said, personally I would have merged over before the lane ended, long before the other truck was in my space. If the other guy chose to try and whip around and pass on my right, not my problem when he puts it in the weeds. I wouldn't even stop unless we made contact.

The fact of the matter is, we all need to be on Alert for the careless and self-interested pricks & the Scotties of the world that want us to hit them so they can retire and live off comp pay.

    Case closed.
