You cannot ever compare apples to oranges, in this case your job to his.
and so in the fact that you have a white collar job, to his blue.
you find it disturbing, we see it as normal.
we addressed your rants, and told you what it's like and how it is.

As I said before, I worked at Swift for 6 months. I had been off the road for 7 years and had to return. The only reason why I went with Swift was because they offered me a flatbed gig. The number one problem with Swift is not the drivers, but the desk jockeys. You are thinking that they threw him to the wolves, and he gets no support from management. IMO, that's actually the best way to do it because unless the office personnel AKA desk jockey has experience behind the wheel, they cannot help you, only hinder you as a driver.
Example:
I picked up an oversized load for Swift in Iowa. Farm implement. It was going to Florida. Got my permits from Iowa to Tennessee. In Illinois, farm implements are exempt from needing a permit. But at that time in Illinois, oversized loads were not permitted to travel on Sunday. I had a problem with the truck and it didnt get fixed til Saturday night in Walcott,IA.
Well, In Kentucky, an OSOW could run 24/7. Tennessee, Georgia no Sunday travel. Florida, Saturday and Sunday Travel from 30 minutes before sunrise to 12 noon. I wanted to leave Walcott, IA and stop at the Kentucky/Tennessee line and wait til Monday which would still allow me to make the delivery in north Florida Monday afternoon.
What I needed to know was, even though farm implements were exempt to needing a permit in Illinois, could this load travel on Sunday?
Would you believe that there wasn't one person in the entire Swift organization that could help me? In fact, they fought me every step of the way. I needed them to send me money to buy beacon lights for the truck and trailer. It flat said on the permits, in particular Tennessee and Florida, that I had to have the beacon lights. And the fools argued with me. My dispatcher had a brain of a turd. But none of those idiots in Phoenix,AZ could help either. They booked a load that they knew nothing about. That in itself is bad enough. But if I am doing the legwork on the legal issues, why battle me? Stupidity reigns supreme in Deskjockeyland.

Newly married and hubby back on the road. Wow, ill never understand that or how you coujd go that to your new wife. That should be your only complaint. The fact you chose a man that will be gone more than home. The rest is BS he can avoid using his head. Your other complaint should be why he went with swift after having 7yrs of experience, tells most he's a really slow learner.

If its an interstate company, they dont follow state overtime laws. Intrastate companies do. Thats the loophole some companies use in cali. All they have to do is go out out of state and they dont have to pay overtime
Otr companies dont hire the traditional way. You just have to look good on paper, attend orientaion and pass the tests they give you. Your appearance doesnt matter. If I had a company and did the hiring, alot of the truckers today that I see will never get the oppurtunity to drive for me just based on thier appearance alone.
Nobody has the will to fight the big companies thats why they just move on to the next.Rick Brown Thanks this. -
I just want to point out the op is in California. California is the reason these trucks are crap. I don't support commiefornia, therefore i cannot support this post.
