Blame your company. Those fairings are not required on pup trailers. Only 53' or longer box trailers.
    From: https://ww3.arb.ca.gov/cc/hdghg/documents/modaeroguidev1.pdf

The Tractor-Trailer GHG regulation (sections 95300 to 95312, title 17, California Code of Regulations) requires owners of affected 53-foot or longer box-type trailers to install aerodynamic technologies on their trailers.

Has nothing to do with California regulations, just your company.

Are you saying you put the landing gear down and pulled back forward with it down?

Not mandatory in California on those short trailers. That's just the company looking to save fuel.

First i want to say that this should be enough proof that it's only required for new 53' trailers. The spec'ing of side fairings on pup trailers, if in fact not required by californication rules, would be something i'd like to bring up to fleet managers for the very reason illustrated by the photo in post #1.

i would like to see more documentation on this, not because i don't trust your judgement----the Guidance Packet is good proof already; i'm just being judicial about it. Also, i wonder if there might have been some recent rules changes?; The packet was published in 2012.

You'll notice that the "apron"/part the connects the sidewalk to the street is angled down, so the more i moved forward, the less and less the landing scraped.

i should have noted in the first post that to the left is the street and to the right is the dock which is angled downwards too.
