    well the signs are anyway--but there are still a few rebranded TA's that other than the sign havent been updated one bit since they were an Orange Ball....meridian(russell)Ms&Montgomery Al come to mind first...

    I didn't know that T/A was rebranded 76. I guess that's why I'm partial to T/A's now. I got the original sign off the old 76 in Walnut Ridge on 67 just before the Mo. line. Guess it's just another decoration for my shop

    Does anyone know when they closed that big truck stop on I-55 just north of I-80 in Plainfield (I think) IL? I forgot the exit number. It's still there on the southbound side of the interstate just abandoned. A sad sight.

    The T/S that your talking about was the Clark T/S It was torn down maybe 10 yrs. or so ago.....

    Man does this thread bring back some memories...

    I'm think'n the two I miss the most are The Virginian and the Lee Hi which were two of my favorite places for food..

    It killed me to see the Virginian get replaced by a Loves and don't even get me started on T/A's...

    The Lee Hi swears up and down the restaurant hasn't changed but I'm telling you it isn't anywhere as good as it once was....Remember all the old Civil War stuff they had in there ??

    Unocal (union 76)got out of the ts biz long time ago...they sold out to TA...TA rebranded some let some go...some went Indy etc.....Unocal still in retail all over left coast.....& keep the ball if u have one I'd LOVE ta have one in the shop.....
    bout the closest thing out there I can think of to on Orange Ball sign is the old 76 on 55 south of windy.....still uses at least one of the old flat circular ball signs painted over....course its a dump! The whole large 3 level set up is Still@ White Pine....just all black now...&if u look close(or remember the place like I do)you can still make out what's left of the old layout thru the weeds...lol...

    I got a few, if anyone remembers them.

    Simbo's in Bonifay, FL. I-10 exit 112. Years ago, that was a busy place. Now, I suppose the restaurant is still open with some truck parking but the fuel island has been turned in to a shop.

    Rich's Truckstop (the new one), Bonifay, FL. This was the one basically across the road and up the hill from Simbo's. Been closed down for 20 years.

    Rich's Truckstop (the old one) Bonifay, FL. This was on US 90 before I-10 opened and US 90 was the major East-West road. My mother worked in both of Rich's Truckstops as a cashier and waitress in the restaurants. The (long-since-gone) Ryder Truck Lines/P.I.E. trucking company used Rich's as a layover/driver switch point.

    The Santa Rosa Truckstop at what is currently exit 31 on I-10 (I forget the old exit number, before Florida went to using mile markers for exit numbers). That place had a very good CB Shop on the north end of the property. Ray's CB Shop. He (Ray) had a LARGE sign talking trash about a contractor he used to build his house and the construction did not go so well. The builder didn't want to fix the shoddy workmanship, so Ray had this sign made that could be seen from the interstate. Ray was the brother of Ralph, the owner of Rich's in Bonifay.

    I cannot remember the name of it, but there used to be a truckstop in Ocala, FL at the same exit where the single Pilot is now (I think that is FL 484). You would go west off of the exit and then turn left into the truckstop. The building sat next to the road and you would have to drive around the building, past the large oak tree to the dirt parking lot.

    One last one was Cigar City in Tampa. I-4 exit.....3, maybe exit 4, it's been years ago, but US 92. They had a huge lot with a motel. To get to the parking lot, you had to drive between the fuel island and the motel. The restaurant had some GREAT food and nice looking waitresses. There was always a guy selling tools out of his van that he had "just gotten from the warehouse". There was also a Unocal (Union 76) at the next exit going east.

    Remember the days of the old punch-card coupons(before rewards cards) get a free steak dinner. Alaways free coffee with fuel and it was good coffee. and if you didn't want to sleep across the seats or in the coffin you could get fuel and a room upstairs for 10.00

    I think the Santa Rosa Truckstop was at old exit 10. Wasnt there a truckstop at old exit 14, new exit 85. It was a mile(?) north on US 331 on the left side. What was that name???? I had alot of fun weekeends at Cigar City waiting for a beer load outa AB. Wasnt there a bar within walking distance?
