I know they went to double glass to stop from doing that, haven't seen one in years, or smoker's windows either

As you can see, the ELD did absolutely nothing to stop the driver from driving fatigued. The only thing it did was provide evidence for the prosecution of the crime.
Same goes for CC cameras at crime scenes. Crimes are still committed, it just provides proof.
    Neither is an effective deterent.
Now if u want the ELD to prevent driving outside of the HOS regulations, simple, just put a power down 5 mph limit on it.
You will notice that the ATA or FMCSA have never advocated that.

ELD doesn’t stop drivers from driving while fatigued. I’ve known drivers that watch videos during their 10 hour break and maybe get a 2 hour nap in there. You will still get tired drivers. Heck I’ve been guilty of that a couple times inadvertently sometimes during your 10 there are events you cannot control that keep you up like a family emergency.

HOWEVER and this is my unpopular opinion, I think elds are a good thing to have. We had many boneheads running multiple logbooks I could understand if you did it once in a blue moon to save a late load because of a screw up but people were constantly doing it. I however do not agree with the way we have HOS set. I believe we should be able to do our 11 hours driving on a 16 hour clock instead that way in your shift you can fit some extra naps or breaks incase you do get tired.
