Nope. That R+L was westbound and by the time he got involved the East bound side was already blocked and on fire. You can see that traffic on the other side is still moving when this guy rolled up on the pile so he had to be heading East.

Did anyone else notice the radio was on in this truck and it didn't sound like anyone was saying anything about slowing down because there was an accident up ahead? So much for the people moaning earlier in the thread about how this wouldn't have been so bad if drivers had their radios on.

thats my point, they CAN be useful, but ONLY if someone else is saying whats going on...

I believe this guy maybe that double tanker than. maybe there was some radio chat before the video started that mentioned the pileup and that is why he was able to slow for it.

Really? 2 seconds into the video, plain as day: "Eastbound, it's shut down right there." And the driver starts to slow.

Notice as well, that the driver saw the traffic behind him coming up fast, and he moved left to give the other truck more shut down room. Didn't matter, as the guy behind was carrying way too much speed and caught the rear corner of his trailer on the way by, and still had enough momentum to really move the pile around upon impact.

Check your ears. I heard radio talk about stopped traffic on the eastbound side before anything stopped traffic appeared in front of him. Looked as though the driver heard those same voices because he started slowing long before he could see the road was blocked. Common sense + early warning = easy to avoid running into stopped traffic.

Your ears are better than mine. I listened several times and couldn't make heads or tails out of what was being said. I'm getting deaf in my old age I guess. I stand corrected then. Carry on. Nothing to see here.
