I use a marine Band radio all the time for fishing...never needed to take it out of the boat for huntin' tho, just use a CB for that (a 200w one at that!). I never been arrested in my life for anything, including my radio usage since I was a kid. You guys kill me. LOL
Oh, and if you need power on your radio Rad, just get it. Don't be concerned about the garbage you read here from our housefly. Every truck driver I know uses "hot" 11 meter radios and I don't know ANYONE that has ever been hasled over it by any law enforcement agencies of ANY kind. Just remember to use the power when you need it, not to annoy others, You sound like a responsible person in your message, I am sure you'll do fine with the power.
Look at the Galaxy 94's and 99's, I think they have a better recieve than the Connex's...jmho

I'll bet you like running red lights too ....because you have never been caught.

It's not illegal to use a marine radio for fishing even on a lake as long as it's in a boat. A law enforcement agancy does not have a right to enforce radio law outside of the 1999 premption ( I work for a sherrif office in the radio shop ) but we have seen 2 cases where arests were made for illegal radio use.

There are many people lookoing for any illegals on 10 meters the problem is if they are outside the US it gets very hard to stop it. ANY use by unlicensed persons within the us groups like 10-10 will be looking for ....

You can call the ITU and report the interference, but you better be dang sure your own radio is tuned properly. Unlike the FCC, the ITU will bite both the reporter and the offender..

You do live up to your Handle.

What you don't get is this is a safety issue. There are few if any 2M repeaters where we go. However, all fellow offroaders have CB's because they are economical. We use them to find each other on the trail and when one of us needs help. I needed a lot of help when I broke down on a trail 10,000 ft up nearing dark. I came to this forum looking for information on one thing only. 11M radios using CH1 to CH40. Citizen Band. And I'm a citizen.

Our rigs are equipped with Warn winches. We carry onboard air cylinders and compressors to air tires up and down. We carry spare CV's, and other suspension parts. We carry impact wrenches. I also carry a mobile a ReadyWelder. My rig has dual batteries. We are about Safety and helping others. (I know the concept of helping someone is foreign to you)

We work on trail preservation and have trail cleanup runs regularly. We belong to Stay The Trail and promote use of existing trails only along with other civic projects.

Now go back to your HAM Shack, surround yourself with your expensive equipment, and blather your narcissistic rhetoric over the airwaves while eating Frito's for the next 10 hours. I suspect that the only reason you are on a Trucking forum is because your glutes look like the rear of one.

They used to have a phone number to call, but I can't seem to find it. It's the ITU-R that is responsible for the radio spectrum regulations and enforcement worldwide.

    Silent,
    Many thanks !
I think I got off track with my post and what I wanted to know..

You understood what I was looking for.

My use is solely for safety, not to irritate anyone. Chan 1-40 11M only.

Q: With the Galaxy 94' can it be set to run at 4W when I am driving in a metropolitan area and then bumped up when I'm offroad? (It would be great to run at 4W most of the time and bump it as needed )

Q: If I get a 94, where do I send it to get the boards "cleaned"? I understand they come dirty and need "Some Attention".

Q: If I'm offroad and within range of my buddies, and I run a hot 11M would they notice and would I overpower them?

Q: Antenna. I have a FireStick for my dead Cobra 75 WX. Do I need a different antenna?
The photo below shows the firestik mounted using a special FJ cruiser base that attaches to the read door hinge. (My 2M Comet dual band is up on the rack) I don't have a lot of options with antenna mounting.

Q: I was also looking at the Magnum 257, because it's small. The Cobra 75 connectors are in the cubby between the seats. The Magnum would fit fine. The Galaxy would require a lot of mods.
Is the Magnum 257 any good?

Probably not gonna interfere up here.....

    I'd turn it down here.....

I understand what your saying and what you are tring to . SADLY CB is a bit below what you really need. Working in public safety ( Sheriff Office )
I deal with part 90 radios built to that level of quilty not 95 or 97 I don't know of any better way at this point or radios you can use for what you are doing without spending some big bucks .....

There is some low band VHF stuff out there see if any of it will do what you need.
