I am getting a Strkyer 440, i have researched all the things that are involed in operationg a 10meter radio. i am going to agree with all the old school drivers that say if you dont misuse or cause problems with it ,then you can operate fine. Thanks to all the radio nazi's for your input.

    A great reply. Thanks.

Also saw your comment about staying below 28.
Which is why I started this stupid post. I'd be using it in the boonies. Still, rules are rules. I get that.

This really is a dilemma for me. I'm a HAM. I don't want to break the rules, whether I would get caught or not.

    Thanks again.

And thanks for the comments by the CB guys. It's all good.

CB was ment for what your doing however it is too limited in the real world for that big a place. Too bad the FCC didn't set aside a higher power CB band .....

Don't worry about this-as long as you stay off the "above channel 40" bands and dont cause interference to others your not going to have a problem. The only time you would is if you talked on any freq above 28.300,which is the start of the 10 meter ham band. If you get caught by the right person you will get in big trouble and those $10.000 fines from the FCC are no joke!

My friends and i have used power from 20 watts to over 5000 (one guy runs waaaaaaay more than that) watts on both AM and SSB for years and have only had one problem, that was when one of the guys talked on the 10 meter band and got a nice little letter from uncle Charley. If you stay off the upper bands, run a radio that does not bleed over on every other channel then you have nothing to worry about.

    But if you do............

You guys are missing the big picture here! Its not the radios that is the problem here, its the people who modify them that's the problem.

As long as a person who uses an "export Radio" would not let some clown with a screw driver work on their radio then you would not have any problems. But if you let Joe blow CB tech rip the limiters out and remove or stretch things that are meant to be left along then your going to have the adjacent channel interference that's causing hams fits. 98% of drivers dont buy these radios for "those extra channels" they buy them for there power and "big radio sound" and after all these years of radioing..even when the DX was super strong,i have never heard anyone other than a licensed ham operating on the 10 meter band. One band above the 11 meter band on the other hand and you hear people from all over the world! Im not saying it (truckers on those "other channels" ) never happens but it does not happen as much as hams would like you to think it does.

I really dont think its a problem of to many channels. I think its more a problem of stupid CB techs who tune a radio to sound like trash. Get these half assed techs out of business and you would see complaints made by hams drop like a rock! But changing the mindset of the truckers who are obsessed with seeing big dirty watts on that Dosy meter would help problems more than anything!

The type of radios used is not the problem, its the brain washing of truckers (by CB techs) that think you have to have massive over modulation and distorted audio that bleeds all over the radio spectrum...to have a good sounding radio.

    On a side note,
I dont think i will ever understand the mindset of some hams. They are guys on the super bowl running over 50 thousand Bird watts+ and yet it is very very rare to hear the FCC/hams pestering them! They wont raise hell about those boys but let a trucker come through town with poorly tuned radio and they are ready to hang em!

The guys on the super bowl to my understanding all run Cobras and Unidens for their rigs and not exports. How much power does it take to have massive bleed over from 27.025 MHz into the ham bands?

I do agree on the CB tech who sells b.s. to an unsuspecting trucker. Those are the kinds just wanting to get into a trucker's wallet.
