One of my old techs(Gooserider) used to build some of their boxes. 10,000 and 20,000 Watts are not out of the question.

Before i knew better i used to make the guys toaster talk next door with only a 35 watt 29 and caused interference on 10 meter with the same radio. We used to hear the local hams complain to us about interference on 10 meter all the time until we started using, well tuned clean radios or tube radios like Trams and Browning's and clean amps likes Henry and Drake. After that they never knew we were around and we ran some big power to!

I ran over 2 Grand and never bothered the guys phone/TV who lived not 50 feet from my antenna. My good friend runs a 2000+ watt Henry with a Collins transmitter (or big Drake with a CB radio) and also used a mobile with a volted up 12 pill built by Intruder amps in NC and caused no problems what so ever to the ham that lives less than a quarter of mile from him. Mr 105 runs massive power on the super bowl but yet he has never had a complaint from any of the local hams....all because they/we used CLEAN radios/amps.

    CT ......

    Back in the 70's I ran a 4 elm beam on 6 meters with 200 watts .....

One day the band was WIDE open you could work 3,000 miles with a 1 watt lunch box and there I am with over 2KW ERP ......

WELL ..... I working a guy in the north east and about 5 days later I get a letter from the FCC .....:biggrin_25521:

SEEMS ..... Both of us were so strong into Atlanta GA that they got calls we were taking out CH2 BOTH of us :yes2557: for those who don't know 6 meters we were on 50.125 mhz not far from ch2 frequency of 54 mhz ....

The FCC was amused not angry and had to tell them it was not our fault .... We were not the only ones that day others were heard too ....

You got to love a open band ....

Why is it I'm forced to listen to a bunch of garbage on my CB channels from God knows where speaking all kinds different languages? I know that garbage isn't coming from CBs.
Maybe I'm off base here but it appears that ham operators are spewing their garbage where it doesn't belong too.
Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong as I'm admittedly not very knowledgeable in this area.
I have nothing against the hammies but it appears to me anyway that they are where they don't belong too and I find it very annoying to deal with everyday.
I mean it's got me to the point some days I want start throwing 1000s of watts off an antenna so high it needs beacon lights and walk all over everyone in a 100,000 mile radius!
Sorry for venting here but that skip #### is really getting on my nerves! And everyone of them has that #### roger beep to boot! lol

Welcome to the world of CB. What you're hearing is skip. It comes in cycles. It will hit a peak of activity and then drop down to no activity. It has to do with the solar cycle. I believe right now we're at the top of the cycle. How much of it your radio picks up depends on your antenna. My 18 foot base station Shakespeare Big Stick with the feed point mounted at only 15 ft off the ground picks up skip well, whereas my Wilson 1000 on top of my truck only picks up the really strong stuff.

Right now I believe all of the skip is coming from down south except for the African Americans on channels 6 and 11 running enough watts out of their Suburbans to fry a chicken. And yes most of what you hear on skip right now are Spanish speaking operators and it sounds as if almost all of them have a roger beep turned on. Even more some of the long winded Spanish speaking operators can be heard on channel 9, which is supposed to be for emergencies only.

I doubt any of what you're hearing is from a ham on his radio coming aboard to piss you off.

If you don't want to hear it, your options are to squelch your radio up, or just don't turn on your radio. You could also run a smaller antenna but then that will kill your range.

The cb channels are not a US exclusive use deal. Other countries use them, both legally and illegally. You arent hearing hams there.
