So you;re saying these are all mobiles and assuming so they can here us as well? Not that I'd know cuz 90% is spanish and if they're talking to me I wouldn't know the difference. lol
They come in so strong at times I have to squelch all the way up and end up just shutting it off.

Oh I hear hams on CB alot and they are not running legal 4 watt setups.

One thing about the hams is that the ones I hear and chat with are not trying to cause trouble or incite arguements or close down the channel.

They have admitted openly that they are running more then 4 watts on CB and that they are not legal in doing it. So they did not really care what I was running for power.

But there are hams out there that do nothing but try to chase down higher powered setups and try and report them. If they hear that you are running an export then that is even better for them to try and get you in trouble. Even though you are not trying to cause trouble etc.

It is actually non of their freaking business what goes on on CB!!!!

As far as the skip, yes it has been pretty cluttered as of late. It is making it hard for the guys with lowered (stock output) powered setups. I have to dial my squelch or RF gain back so far to quiet the skip that I can not hear the lower powered guys. Most every channel is cluttered with this stuff with the exception of the 10 meter bands. They are quiet as a mouse. I don't talk on them but I do listen to see if there is any comunications happening on them.

I don't know if they're all mobiles or if some of them are base stations. Chances are they can hear us unless someone with a 20,000 watt set up keys up and steps on your transmission.

I've personally talked skip from MO to VA, NC, FL on nothing more than a stock 4 watt 40 channel mobile radio without any power. The conditions have to be right for it to happen.

You can't set your squelch at the 3 o clock position and block out the skip?

Actually this is the very begining of the current solar cycle. It will get stronger than what we've been hearing the past few months.During the last solar cycle I made contacts using a handheld CB on battery power. There were times when it was hard to talk base to base (7 or 8 miles) but talking to Europe at 9+ s-units both ways.

Sometimes yes and sometimes no. Even at 3 you're blocking out a lot of weaker tansmissions you might not want to be tho.
It's nice in the morning. I can have my squelch at 0 and hardly get any noise and hear people 10 miles away easy and they can hear me loud and clear at 10+ miles. Was talking to a guy at over 15 thursday morning.

Thanks for the heads up. How may one tell where at in the solar cycle we are?

The battery powered radio thing sounds col. Assuming you're referring to the walkie talkie style radios. Would love to make contacts sitting in my backyard. :biggrin_25514:
