I always make sure to make eye contact with the driver when walking past their truck when their sitting in the driver seat to ensure they know im walking past..better safe than sorry

Well, at 50, yes, but I can say at 70, ones perception becomes a bit clouded, and I almost got hit as I walked across the fuel pumps a while back, I just took for granted the guy in the van was going to stop. Just an unfortunate series of events here.

    Situational awareness.
No matter what we are doing or where we are, we need to know what is happening around us. R.I.P. to that man . Also hopefully the Driver will get over this.
Or at least warn people.......like I had a bumper sticker said "If you don't like the way I drive, stay off the sidewalk" .

Growing up around trucks when I began to walk on my own one of the first things I was taught was to walk around them where you can be seen. Even if you cant see the driver you need to be far enough away so he can see you. This was back in the days when it was all hoods and coe’s. Blind spots galore. Back then when every truck was idling and park lights were on you never walked in the shadows. It’s always been like you never know when someone would throw it in low and go.

Many moons ago, I was driving for a guy in Whitewater, Wis. in a cabover IH Transtar. He insisted on taking the 2 lanes going to Ohio, I was young and stupid, ,,duh, okay boss. Sight directly in front of you is limited in a cabover, and somewhere in Indiana, 1st in line waiting on a red light, light turns green, I let the clutch out, out of the corner of my eye, I see a young girl on a bike trying to beat the traffic. I mashed the brakes, thinking for sure I hit her, but miraculously, she made it. I guess we both had a story to tell, and from that day on, I never took the 2 lanes again.

People think since cabovers ain’t got no hood so you can see good in front of you. Best way to describe it is it’s like trying to see the ground directly under you through the window in a high rise building. You can’t unless you open the window , stick your head out and look down.
