I'm very new to this site so please don't hate on me. I'm an owner operator here in Dallas, Tx. I have a dedicated run from Dallas to central Louisiana everyday (5-6 days a week) hauling on average of 44K of chicken. I have a 2007 FL Century 14L 515hp I believe it has 3:42 on the rear?. My truck doesn't pull very good at all and the MPG isn't all that good either.. I'm looking into ordering a Glider truck here in the next year as soon as I get mine paid for. I was going to order from Fitz but I read what some people have to say about them. I prefur to deal with a FL dealer. I just assume things would be easier that way for me. I called up Harrison Truck Center and talked to them but couldn't get a lot of info on what I wanted to know. Anyways, I have a lot knowledge about trucking but never had a 12.7L Detroit. I'm not very smart when it comes to the gears for the back. I have NO IDEA what gears is good for what (sad huh)?.. I'm just trying to figure out what is a good set up for that motor?? I know that I want a 10 or 13 speed with 22.5 Low Pro. I just want the right gears that will pull very very well but still get good fuel mileage. I normally like to run around 70-72 MPH on good days. I'm not trying to be a left lane trucker, but it would be nice to have a truck that can handle it with ease if I ever wanted to. If there is ANY info you guys can throw at me, I would REALLY appreciate it. Thanks and God Bless!

Also, I'm not sure what a ported manifold is or a turbo with a blanket? I'm assuming you can add all this on when you order the glider from Harrison? I'm looking at a 2014 Coronado..=)

2.62 gears with a tag axle will get you good fuel economy

Google "roadranger roadspeed calculator". Think about what rpm you want your engine to be at the road speed you usually run. It will show you how fast you will be.going at those rpms with different rear end ratios. It will give you a pretty good idea where you want to be. Then you can discuss that with the dealer when they spec your truck.

You will have to choose whether you want a direct transmission, or an overdrive. If you are not familiar with the direct vs. overdrive debate, just google "direct vs. overdrive", and I've seen threads about it in our forum here, also.

Myself, I would alwys choose the 18 speed. I would imagine you could probably just about keep the engine where you want all the time, you have split shifting to really.get you up the hills, and I think, most impotantly you have low, low gears for pulling out or backing. I like being as easy on a clutch and driveline as possible.

    Good luck.

For what you want to do an 18speed is OVERKILL and not needed!! A "true" 13 speed is ALL you need!!

are there some hills between Dallas and Louisiana
    that I am unaware of
that would have any affect on how the truck pulls?
