With a company like Werner they don't want you to do any mechanical work on the truck at all. Something simple like a missing mud flap needs to be taken to a shop... Best to really make sure you do what you can to prevent fuel gelling so you don't have to deal with company policy and a gelled up truck at the same time.

But yeah, even the fuel filters on a cascadia are a breeze to change, they just cost $70, and they still have a priming pump.

Thanks. Just asking around. So I guess it's a bad thing that I can do these things? Lol. I won't freeze if something happens. I can also replace light bulbs and headlights and fuses.

Yes we do unfortunately. I'm not green. I don't call 1-800-fix-my-truck unless I'm out of options or cannot get to a safe haven. One of my flatbed trucks brake booster went out on me. Very carefully drove the truck back to the shop 60 miles away. Some green hand? Oh, the brakes feel funny. Wah wah wah come tow me.

It would drive me nuts knowing I could fix something and be down the road instead of messing with the company to arrange a fix.

Maybe it's better to ask forgiveness than permission.

My tools that I carry is a cell phone. I fix nutting. One call to Penske then to my boss, does it all.

Even back in the day I carried my cell phone, nothing else, well maybe a crow bar to remove the nails in my trailer's floors when some loads had to be secured by the dock guys nailing it.

beyond that, most diesel fuels are properly blended when winter is coming. and long before you even buy fuel in the winter, always ask , if the blend is for winter, especially down south.

Too be honest since they took all of the wax and Paraffin out of fuel and since the new trucks run such high rail pressures the circulating fuel is usually pretty warm/hot.

I guess if you have a truck just sitting, but in the last couple of years I just have not run into it, even with the exposed tanks on my Pete, just doesn't seem to be anywhere near the problem it used to be.

    BostonTanker and dca Thank this.
