I recently thought about driving a truck for a living and went to RoadMaster in Orlando and spoke to a guy named Mirrel. Nice enough guy. I went through the interview and he told me how great a trucking career could be and how they will pretty much guarantee me a good paying job making me at least 40k my first year and gave me a few Werner brochures and said that's the company he'd recommend. It sounded pretty good! But one thing I've learned in my 37 years is that there are alot of b/sers out there. And pretty much anybody in any type of sales is full of it.
So I found this excellent website. Thank God I found it!!! Being a trucker sounds like it is just a pure crap job for about 80% of the prople here. I can't imagine shelling out 6 grand for school, shipping out for training for a month of pure hell and below minimum wage. Then being slave labor for a year to these companies that screw up your pay and everything else!!?? There is no way I can go through all that for substandard pay and being gone all the time. I am going back to school and hopefully make $500-$700 per wk driving for a local courier in my little Honda Civic....WHEEEW!!!!! Thank you guys!!!
I will say I think it's AWESOME how you veterans look out for the newbies on this board. Trying to get them jobs and pointing them in the right direction. I like that but this is career is just not for me.....good luck!!! and THANK YOU!!!!!!!

I'm glad you found out now instead of after it was too late.

    Good luck.

Trucking is crap.I am glad you figured this out now.10 Yeras ago i woulda told you to hop aboard, but as it sits now trucking is a very crappy life and life style.

Some love the life style, true. But its not for everyone.

I can assure you this.If you are a man that wants to have a ''normal'' good life and life style then trucking is not for you.

Trucking is a life of being a ''recluse''..If you wanna be like that then go for it.But if you want to be around your loved ones and watch your kids grow and have a great home life, then you better run now.If you are a man with solid friends and if you have a good ''social'' network of great friends, then you better stay out of trucking...

MY OWN OPINION IS STAY AWAY AND GO TO SCHOOL AND LEARN A TRADE..

Yep, KNOW YOURSELF. And it sounds like you do.

My personal capacity for BS is pretty high.

Hey Cowdog, how ya doing? I do agree with you. This industry is not right for everyone. But for those who manage to stick it out, it does get better. There are indeed alot of companies out here that are pure trash. But you have to remember that it all goes to "paying your dues". A new driver will find it hard to get a driving job with one of the better carriers out here. I know, I had to pay my dues back in "84. I worked for just about every lousy carrier there was in my first years of trucking. But then I found a great carrier named Continental Express in Little Rock Arkansas. That had to be probably the best carriers I've ever worked for. In hindsight, I wish I had stayed there. but they don't run where I currently live. Good luck in your future prospects. Sorry to see you go so soon.
