We are a lumber company that hauls out of Houston. I got are authority two months ago to use the truck for money for the return. I see the loads at 1.50-1.70 on the load boards. People take them to have a paying load to get back home. I will D.H. before I take that crap. What sucks is they will be gone off the board in five minutes. No thanks. Its nice to have that option, but people cutting there own throats by accepting that.

it's not really cutting your own throats. it's more about your finaneces.

if you're in debt over your head. then obviosly you can't afford to haul for less then $3.

somebody who has absolutely NO DEBT. can haul for $1.25. after all per mile cvosts are figured in. they make as much as a company driver. it pays the utilities. but does absolutely nothing towards financial goals.

that's how people can haul cheap freight.

I have no debt and I won't haul for a $1.25 a mile - I would be paying the shipper for the priveledge of hauling their freight at $1.25 a mile.

Well I had no payments, tractor and trailers paid for and I still would not lower myself to being a highway poacher.

But then my units were well kept, clean and shined with no points on my inspections also. Some people can drive a garbage barge and feel ok about it, but I have self respect.

I was raised where a person takes pride in what they drive and that is not what I see on the road with the low baller's moonlighting units that are not taken care of.

My one KW had 500k on it when I bought it, at least I took the time and effort to bring it back to decent and that did not happen by hauling cheap loads.

    Rant over

$1.25 a mile is just too low. The $1.75 is justifiable IF the load they brought down paid them in the $3 mile range. But most likely it is a hay shagger and he thinks he is making a killing at his $1.50 mile average in his "garbage barge" (thanks Aiwiron for that one)
