I drive for a national brand delivering cookies and crackers to grocery stores, been there for almost a year, after leaving hauling fuel, I thought I was settled in this place. This is a really good gig, home every night, 0 turnover. 100% paid healthcare , and above average ( IMO) hourly pay , OT after 40. It's a union shop and drivers and warehouse are all in the same Union . Well the ####ty part is, a 17 year warehouse guy, decided to get his CDL which will pretty much bump me out of my spot , there is 12 routes and I'm the 12th driver, now becoming #13 when this dude starts driving. The result is, I'll be in the warehouse everyday unless someone has a personal day or vacation . I didn't get my CDL 6 years ago to end up being a warehouse ##### at my 7th year lol. I hauled household, Pepsi and fuel, now crackers. What's a good industry to be in now where the money is good and your experience is valued?? Seems like the good jobs are never posted anywhere

It should be in the contract. Whatever the contract says, goes. Complaining to management won't help in a union shop. My company (non-union) held a vote on matter and what was decided was that company seniority only counts for vacation time bidding. If someone moves from dock to CDL, or from CDL-B to -A, their seniority for bidding start times or runs gets reset to 0. That way, those "unfair" situations are avoided.

Of course, "unfair" depends on which guy you ask.

Just 12 drivers? I bet that is a good gig. You might just hang around for a while. Things happen.

Edit: He decided to get his CDL? I wouldn't worry about it until he got his CDL and was on your truck.

Edit: Another thing, Mr. New CDL Holder won't have any snow driving experience, will he?

LTL side tailgating multi stop store loads 70-90k+

Truckload side 75% d/h 60-70k+. I get after it and did just over 73 last year.

Home weekends. Outstanding equipment, benefits and staff.

No micromanagement. We get our trips and get left the hell alone to do what we do.

Only 14% turnover, most of that retirements, says more about the company than anything.

Voluntary turnover can be at or close to 0% at a decent company. My place is like that. In one year, nobody leaves for greener grass. Guys retire, but that's it.
