I don't know these guys' reason but when I drove dump, the fifth wheel was blocked from tilting. It had something to do with raising the box. Beyond that I don't know why and I didn't drive dump for very long to know the ins and outs of it all.

It's for pulling an end dump. The fifth wheel plate on the trailer tilts so the fifth wheel on the tractor needs to be fixed to prevent them from rocking forward when you hit the brakes and rocking back when you take off.

Thank you. I can see why that would be a problem!

Because the trailer plate has a tilt built in it so that the frameless dump arms and cylinder can articulate

Can't find that part # you speak of. If you are talking about the one in this pick with the round pucks in the front and straight flip up tabs in the back. Then I have had 2 trucks with this fifth wheel. I did like it more than the bar, because I think it sucks trying to store a dirty, greasy bar in a day cab.

Other than that you will have to walk around the truck a couple times to lock it out or put it back to tilt mode. I now have one with the bar, but I never switch from a frameless.
