Push for nuclear power is in the new green energy bill. You’ll have to look it up since the media is ignoring it. Palisades in Michigan got something like 1.5 billion to get it back online.

 

I’ve worked in a few of them, rad waste and decon. Spent countless hours below reactors in the hot wells slinging lead blankets.

Brother works for the NRC doing licensing. Traveling the world overseeing all the new reactors being built.
He brought me up to the top of an open pool where they were moving some rods..was a wild sight. Something not many get to see. If I remember correctly it’s gamma rays causing just a rainbow of colors in the pool.

 

I would like to see that. But I've never been allowed inside any of the buildings other than the guard shack, just outside the warehouse to make my delivery.

 

You probably had a gun or three fixed on you at all times, lol. Ever since 911 they really stepped up security. Fitzpatrick in Upstate New York was the last outage I worked. Was brutal hours but the pay was incredible. Safety bonuses at the end of no one got hurt were sweet…anywhere from $10-50k.

Great job if you’re young and don’t mind working the entire winter like a dog. Summers you take off. Outages only take place in the winter because there’s actually not a big demand for electricity.

Only issue I have with nuclear is I don't want a plant near me. There are enough remote areas they can build them many miles away from people and cities.

 

I feel safer in a nuke plant than sitting on a beach in the sun or sitting in front of a tv. Couple times I’ve picked up some really hot crap but never maxed out my allotted dose.

Could be something the size of a grain of sand that could ruin your day quick.

Im all for nuclear power if that’s what you’re asking.

 

I was there before 9/11. The guy who rode in my truck had a pistol, and the 7 or 8 guys who walked alongside the truck had rifles and pistols. None of those guys ever brought any of their weapons to the ready position, but I made a point of being visible and predictable by not moving unless I was ordered to and not speaking unless I was spoken to.

 

I don’t know if they still do it but, anyone living close by one would get a really reduced electric rate.
