I believe accidents per million mile dropped year over year from 2004 to 2012, with fatigue as "major contributing cause" dropping from the top of the list to just in the top ten. So yes, I do believe the 14 has had a positive impact.

At times it is highly annoying, at times very useful.

Was it the 14 or was it the dot actually enforcing hos regs? They both happened at the same time.

Lol, I’m just following after my heroes, the mega-fleet drivers. I was starting to feel all bad for them smelling like ### when I smelled good.

When we were on 8/10/15 my 8 usually was 10. Now my 10 is usually 12.

Ideally they would have enforced things first, but since they didn't you can't seperate the causality. You also have to factor in the increase in electronic monitoring - between cameras, cellphones, fuel cards etc it has become easier to use "supporting documents" to verify logs. What would be a several hours long process can now be done with a few keystrokes.

I'd love to take 1,000 drivers at one cimpany and put them on elds under the pre 2004 HOS, then see how they compare to the rest of the fleet in terms of accidents, productivity, and driver health. I'd also like to add a third group running under no HOS and see what happens. We arent in a laboratory though, so its not going to happen.

There may be some post hoc ergo procter hoc logic involved, but the correlation can't be denied.
