Unfortunately those days are not over. It just isn't as prevalent today as it was then. Still plenty of folks doing it.

Edit to add: and 800 miles is an average of over 72 mph. Even out west you can't average 72 mph over the course of a full day unless you are speeding over the limit to make up for the times you aren't running the limit. Even 700 is hard to do and requires everything to go just perfect. Suggesting otherwise is just giving ammunition to those pushing for speed limiters.

Me too, but i wouldn't plan on it being a regular occurrence. As i said, its #### hard to do and requires everything to go perfect. And better not drink a lot of coffee, there simply isn't enough time to stop more than once for the mandatory 30.

I still wondering What more do you guys want? You got your elogs and hos geared around lazy ### people who chose trucking as a lifestyle and not a job. You want us to drive with one hand tied behind our back and one eye closed? Would that “level the playing field” enough? Can’t wait to see what’s next.. lol

Couldn't possibly be the fact someone has learned to work smarter and faster inside of the laws and regulations governing the use of public roads huh?

Yep keep begging to work longer, cheaper, dumber.......

Hell that has only stagnated driver pay for 30 years across most of the industry. And you fools are celebrating. SMDH.

its not so much "wanting: too work Longer days- None of us want that- The 3 hours of OFF DUTY will Help in so many different scenarios- (Traffic,Weather,Taking a shower after loading like spyder suggests,Or simply taking a nap)

This is a Great Proposal and hope it goes through- I Believe the roads will become a tad safer with drivers not being so stressed.

Again- This isn't about working Longer

What part of "OFF DUTY" don't you understand?

FWIW, this 3-hour proposal would eliminate a few of my problems with the HOS and elogs...would allow me to stop at the store on my way home as I pass it, instead of going home and having to backtrack the hour or so burning up a good chunk of my break. It wouldn't mean having to skip dinner with the wife if my work day has me in town when she goes on her lunch break with my hours winding down. It lets me save the wife a trip into town to feed the horses on her days off if I'm running over in that direction. OFF DUTY time shouldn't count against you. You aren't "extending your WORK day" because you aren't supposed to be WORKING during while you're logged "OFF DUTY".

If nothing else, letting drivers stop their clock to get a shower mid-day when the truck stop isn't busy might help you breathe a little easier while paying for your fuel. Who wants to wait 3-4 hours for a shower when EVERYONE is parked trying to get one? Off duty time never used to count against you, until these new rules came out in '04. This is just a small step towards correcting that 14 year old mistake.
