It's always amazing how the driver usually escapes accidents, but the passengers end up dead. I can't really say I feel sorry for anyone that is caught drinking and driving or happens to die as a result of it.

Wow, anyone that happens to be a result of it? the innocent teen (was drinking at party or not still was not driving) that got the ride home with the drunk driver? the family in the car coming the other way going to the store and was killed? (maybe not in this story, but it happens) You dont feel sorry for them? if you do, you should choose your words more carefully in the future. Drinking and driving and all the happens from it is because of the choice one person made. The Driver, and its not JUST a teenage problem. I still cant understand how bars are legal. all the booze and liquor stores and truck stops and restuarants and places that you DRIVE TO AND FROM are legal. I know they say designated driver blah blah blah. I say these places selling it should become a little bit more liable as to who and how they let drive from their establishment. Also maybe not give alcohol permits to places in the middle of nowhere. IE..places you have to drive the furthest from WITH your alcohol. wise man once said lead me not into temptation. I can find the way myself :biggrin_25512:

UNDERAGE drinking. Why????? My ex thinks it's okay, too. I DO NOT!!!!

It's sad that anyone had to die, period. I feel very badly for the parents of those kids - but why were they out drinking if they were under age? Sorry, but I know where my kids are/were at all times and I know if they're drinking or not (it's not that hard to find out if you want to). I control them while they live here. Once they're gone, I can't do anything but while they are here, they will do as they're told and underage drinking is NOT acceptable!!!!!!!!

Designated drivers around here get ONE free drink a night. Pffft!!! Ridiculous!!! And why all the parking around bars and lounges??????

I think ALL vehicles should have the things you have to blow into to start the car - or at least have it so it has to be used after 11 pm at night until 4 am the next morning or SOMETHING (computers can do this) - ANYTHING to get more of the drunk drivers off the road.

Cops put up radar stops and gun people barely speeding. Why don't they all hang out by bars and clubs and catch all those drunk drivers?????

I hate drinking and driving with a passion!!!!!!!:biggrin_25510:

I know how it feels to lose someone, seems like the driver always lives, My brother and 3 other friends of his were killed in 2000 because of a drunk driver, Yes he lived, went to court and recieved 7 years, out in 4 years and probation for 3 years, 1 more year and he is off probation. He got 7 years for each count and they were to run consecutive, that means the 7 years for each count run together. My brother Kevin was 39 years old and the man that caused the accident was the same age, so Teens, even though it seems they do it more doesn't mean that grown adults don't do it just as much. Be careful out there guy and gals, don't drink and drive, it simply isn't worth it.

The most eye opening 8 years of my life was as a Paramedic. I worked an area that responded predominantly to traffic accidents. There's a simple solution: Alcohol or Dope + Driving = DEATH. I've heard people tell me smoking marijuana helps relax them and they drive better. HOW STUPID CAN YOU BE. If that's the case, everybody would do it while they drive and we would be accident free. Excuses, Excuses, then you die. I used to do some of the statistics for our department, when I became a cop, to send in to the National Institute of Justice. You know, alot of people used to talk about how many people we lost in the war in Vietnam. But people don't realize, we lose that many people EVERY YEAR TO DRUNK DRIVING. I just can't understand why people cannot take this seriously.:biggrin_25513: Lots of people act like it's a joke, or nothing serious. But stop and take a look at the death around you. These kids not only had alcohol but had pot in the car too, and had previous possesion charges. Man, what is it gonna take? Now I wonder how that poor truck driver is going to make out. I'm sure it's going to mess him up for a long time to come, emotionally and probably in his job. There was nothing he could do.

As a paramedic, I am still waiting for the call. Single car rollover and no alcohol or drugs during the night. I know it will never happen.

I think you misunderstood what I said. I mentioned dying as a result of drinking and driving, not meaning innocent people who may have happened to get hit by a drunk driver and died.
