Plus it's all relative. A guy that runs over 100k miles a year is going to see a much larger impact in fuel costs by getting 8 mpg vs a guy like me that puts less than 50k miles a year on the truck and averages 7 mpg. The benefit of gaining 1 mpg for me isn't worth the costs to gain that 1 mpg. -
TallJoe, Rideandrepair and spyder7723 Thank this.

I actually just had my first new truck break down today of all times. The fitting that comes out of the heater core broke off and dumped all the coolant. Of course, nowadays the fittings are plastic. (bangs head on wall). Between 2 road calls and a repower its costing me $2700 on a $2800 load. Truck is at 2 yrs 227k miles. Oh well, what you gonna do other then get stressed out on a Sunday trying to please a long time broker customer on a hot load. Thank God they were paying round trip rate or id be screwed on the money.Last edited: Dec 29, 2019

Condos are not much better either: 1200 SF in Palatine or Arlington Heights - 3-4K in taxes + 4-5K in association fees.
Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
The Section 179 deduction is how a some of companies roll their fleets so often.
A tractor that costs $159,000 @ 32% tax bracket only costs you $108,120 after the tax savings. You will often see a truck with ~300K on it for sale for about $114,000. Sure they have to eat the cost of FET etc... but if you have the capitol you can swap trucks for almost free during the good years. We will see how that works with the drop in used truck values.
It is a good deal for those who have the capitol.stuckinthemud, blairandgretchen, Cabinover101 and 3 others Thank this. -
Sure you can get away with under a grand a year with no municipalities....No neighbors, No Filtered water and No sewer lines taking away matter far from your property..
Gravel Drives- 50 amp service- old windows and doors, ...goes on and on.......
I pay $7500 a year, Worth it to me, Plus another 6500 a Year for Commercial property.
