WELL!
I've been quietly lurking for a week or so. Reading, reading and more reading. I was on another very unhelpful forum and decided to broaden my horizons, so to speak. So many questions had gone unanswered until I came here. Didn't even have to ask, just read.... and voila! ANSWERS everywhere.
Best part seems as though people are actually courteous here.
As for myself, 43 year old single female gypsy who loves the road.... wanted to get into otr for some time now but I had a few obstacles that have so far been worked out with the company I finally found (oddly enough it's a big company, and I'd never heard of them). Just now in the beginning process. Tentative start for CDL training April 3rd.
Life has been pretty difficult these passed 10 years so I'm really hoping this works out for me.

One thing I like about trucking is you can see the country and find a better place to live someday. Leave the old environment behind and start new.VIDEODROME Thanks this.

Yes, complacency sucks. Hate it when I'm stranded somewhere because I have to work a crap labor job for $7.25 hr.
But I have seen most of the US already only a few states I haven't been in. Lived in about 11 states (including LVNV). Also two Providence's of Canada... before passports were needed!Chinatown Thanks this. -
Just a little self growth advice:
You said that the last ten years has sucked. Please do some self reflection and ask yourself what caused the bad luck. Make sure you change the habits and choices that made it suck or else a new endeavor or job won't change a thing. Good luck.dngrous_dime Thanks this. -
Welcome to our crazy world!
Hope the change is just what you're looking for & works out well for you.
Different strokes for different folks, but it was a great move for me. Can't see myself doing anything else, right now. It has it's moments at times, but what doesn't? Overall, I love what I do.
Here's to new starts......best of luck to you. -
85% is because of financial problems.
Basically, unemployment or horrible heavy labor jobs that pay nothing. Last year I made $11,331 which is the most I've made in 10 years. This year is the first year I have to do taxes! -
Will you be pulling refrigerated or van?
-
Dry van OTR. I don't need "home" time.Chinatown Thanks this.
