EL PASO, Texas- Construction on Interstate 10 from Mesa to Executive Center isn’t going anywhere any time soon. For the next four years, the $158 million Texas Department of Transportation project called “Go 10” will bring major changes to El Paso, along with major delays.

Construction on this part of the Westside started in April 2015 and is now expected to be completed in the summer of 2019.

A direct nonstop connection will go up between I-10, Paisano and the Border Highway. A few additional lanes will be added on I-10.

Bridges, ramps and overpasses will be reconfigured, causing the biggest road closures during construction, having I-10 closed for days at a time.

The project covers about 6 miles of I-10. The main goal is to ease congestion.

TXDOT officials said the updates being made are desperately needed.

“It is the only segment of urban interstate in the state that doesn’t have any frontage roads or CD lanes,” said Bob Bielek, TXDOT district engineer. “It doesn’t have any alternative for when either you have congestion or (an) incident on the main lanes, something happening out there. So there is no way to get around it.”

Collector distributor lanes are commonly known as access roads. TXDOT officials said adding these will allow drivers to go short distances on the Westside without ever having to get on I-10.

“People have heard me alternately refer to it as the project from hell or the nightmare on the Westside because of the affect it’s going to have on traffic,” said Bielek. “One of the promises I made was that we were going to provide the public with some information to help them get through that.”

Transmountain, Doniphan and Mesa Street are all alternate routes you might want to use during closures. We’ll keep you updated here at KFOX14 on what dates and times you can expect major closures throughout the next four years of the project.

During all this mess I suggest bypassing using Loop 375, US 54, FM 3255/NM 213 and NM 404 aka The Anthony Gap between exit 164 on I 10 in New Mexico and exit 34 on I 10 in Texas on the east side of town.

    Nope.

You used to be able to jump onto US 85/Paisano Drive and catch Loop 375 near downtown but that's going to be in the middle of all this.
The project is already almost a year behind. The original contractor started work then left town

    HalpinUout Thanks this.

It's not a bad bypass. It sounds more complicated than it is.

Trans mountain wouldn't be bad if you're lightly loaded.

The final transition ramp from loop 375 to 10 eastbound on the east side nu town should be done by the spring which will make it a lot better

Kind of like 20+ miles east of Effingham, the road work is completed yet the barrels are still up keeping everything down to one lane ... and nobody is working while the weather is beautiful and we're quickly headed for snow-time. Guess the state stopped paying the contractor so they up and left, apparently.
