LOL I have a bad right shoulder, and have no trouble, BUT I always wind them up with thehooks inside, so that I am throwing it over., much easier especially in big winds. Even if you do get the tail over, wind will sometimes blow it off the end before you can get over there,

X2. I hook em to the rail and double arm overhead whip a roll. You just have to wind em right so that they unwind correctly in flight. Unless im in an alley dock i can throw over a 13ft box.

Then you have to walk around for every strap. I am lazy and prefer to throw all straps over then walk around and hook them all. lol
x1Heavy Thanks this. -
So you throw them over, walk around in hook em all, and walk back around put them on the winch and tighten the winch....?
I hook the hook on the hook side, throw it over, walk around the other side, insert into winch and tighten... sounds like you’re making an extra trip around the wagon imo.
I’m not here to point fingers or make fun at anyone looking for help....however:
My 15-year-old girls are 5 feet tall and 100 lbs. Sometimes they have trouble throwing straps over the top of 13 six loads.. Mostly at the end of the day tying down for tomorrow after they worked all day. Not most of the time though.
However you gotta do it to get it done. That’s the “necessity is the mother of invention” thought.Diesel Dave Thanks this. -
Try throwing that light end in a 40 mile an hour wind, it may go over the truck behind you. lol
When I throw the bare end, it is because I am using straps with both bare ends and winches on both sides, and I used to do a lot of that.
Now nearly all I do is preloaded and tied down, sometimes it is more work tieing it down right though. lol -
The hardest strap job i did was in huntersville nc at the bag mulch place, seemed to have its own mini hurricane at all time. It was like being on deployment except insteada sand that was manure grit in your teeth and toes and buttcrack.
No one could strap alone, the wind took every strap and pulled it between the pallets then you cant really go ontop the bags to fix it. Every driver had to partner up with someone. That was the day i took every strap off the winch and started whipping rolled tails just to get thru the wind. Became good buddies with my turd plant partner so i guess thats good. Otherwise the whole job was Bull sheet. No really. -
Try that wind when it is 40 below. lol
Or try tarping in it.
Right after swift got into the flatbed game, a young kid loaded ahead of me and pulled out to tarp. I heard him yell so went to investigate. He had been blown off the truck and was all rolled up in his tarp. lol
I got him out and helped fold the tarp back up, even climbed the latter with it to get it back on the load. I told him to get his ropes and I would show him how to get it done without killing himself. He didn't have any rope, so I got mine and helped him. I am betting he had some rope before he reloaded . lolhomeskillet Thanks this. -
Throwing straps ein the wind sucks. You can usually move the truck/trailer enough so you are throwing straps with the wind. Some stuff you don't want to move.
