I have had tarps whip and throw me pretty high in the air, but so far always landed back on the load.

Well, this is a bit embrassing but 2 months ago i was headed into an ugly ugly storm front in ohio with no choice but to go right into it for schedule. It donned on me to pull over and rain-X quick while window still dry.
I flip hood fast as i can and climb up onto valve cover. Im spritzing and buffing like a madman when the hardest wind i ever felt just went from zero to 11 like a switch. The full windex on the cab roof LIFTED right up into the air and whipped quite far from the truck. My brain said tornado just as something incredibly heavy smashed me from behind and tried to throw me into the truck through the windshield. It was the hood, and being a long hood, with the wind still at 11 closing it on me, i thought i might seriously suffocate. Like a football team standing on a picnic table on your back.
I almost crawled under it and layed on the motor but didnt for fear of putting a foot into the serpent belt or something. Just as i got really concerned about who is gonna find me here and explain this to my wife, it let up and i gathered my ruffled feathers for a long ride to louisville. No more boyz in da hood for this guy.homeskillet and Truckermania Thank this. -
I was putting a water pump on an old big cam cummins on the side of the interstate one time. IWe had on of them eastern NM winds howling, so I tied my 20 ton jack to the hood ornament to keep the hood from closing, it worked for a while then slammed closed on me. Luckily the driver was there and got out and got it off of me. lol

The wind won't blow chains around... Unless you are in Wyoming.

I don't know, I was in Colorado once on top of a 13,6 load and full size pea gravel was sand blasting me.
My cap blew off and is still going 90 somewhere. lolFoolsErrand Thanks this. -
I use the slingshot method when throwing straps over tall loads. I can’t describe it, but it’s on YouTube. Other than that I just shoot each strap like a basketball after hooking it to the rail. Occasionally the wind catches it, so you have to adjust direction.
